Default Yamaha HTR-6290

Any Yamaha HTR-6290 owners out there? If so I'm just looking for general thoughts on how good this thing is. It's going to be on sale for boxing day in Canada and I'm thinking about getting it to replace my HTR-6160.
Do you think it's worth the upgrade? (I really need the extra HDMI ports)

Oh and does anyone know what the equivalent would be in the RXV series? (if there is one)

Thanks

I don't own the HTR-6290, but it's a great receiver. You'll notice a substantial improvement in sound quality, largely due to better DACs, anti-jitter circuitry, and a much improved power supply and amplification system.

It is marketed under two model numbers, the HTR-6290 and the RXV1900. Yamaha used to use both series to distinguish between two distribution channels - hi-fi specialty shops got the RX-V, while online sales and big box retailers got the HTR line. The internal components and features were identical, but the power ratings were measured differently for each channel.

The distinction between the HTR and RXV lines has blurred in recent years though. I don't know if Yamaha still makes a practice of this, but when I bought my HTR-6080 a year ago, the only difference between that and the RX-V861 was the font color on the faceplate. HTRs typically use gold lettering, while the RX-V series uses white. I thought the gold looked better, so I went with the HTR 6080.

Either way you go, you'll have a fantastic receiver.

That's some great stuff to know, thanks very much!

Out of curiosity, do you have anything non-hdmi hooked up to it? What I really need to know is.... If I hook up my Wii via composite cables (or whatever their default cables are), will it still output to my tv via HDMI? I'm not even sure what that feature is called so I don't know how to look it up.

I have the HTR6290 and I have everything going into it via HDMI except for the Wii which uses composite. The only connection to the TV is with HDMI and it works great.

Default Speaker suggestions for Yamaha HTR-6290

I hope someone can help with some advice.

I just purchased the Yamaha HTR-6290 receiver and I am wondering if anyone can suggest an optimal speaker system for this receiver. It will be used almost exclusively for the home theater experience. I also prefer more natural sounding speakers to heavy bass.

Thanks for any advice.

I have the HTR-6190, which is the previous year's model and I have Totems..the combo is very pleasant.

I am not sure if it is optimal or not because I am new to the AV addiction but this is what I am using and it sounds good.

Polk rti a6 center channel
Polk psw 125 12" sub
Infinity 5 1/2 Towers
Sony 5 1/2 book shelf for the rear surround.

It is a mash of stuff but will upgade in the future. The polk h/w really out shines the sony components I have. The infinity seem to hold up pretty good.
