I think they were the ones with overpriced Blu-rays who we went to if Best Buy didn't have them in stock.

I kind of miss it. In my hippiefied neck of the woods, Circuit City was the first "legit" electronics store to come to town that wasn't located an hour's drive away. The opened their doors here in 1996 or so. They did really well when they first arrived, and people liked shopping there instead of "going over the hill" to get their electronics (those who live in my area know the colloquialism).

Then Best Buy moved in about 1.5 ~ 2.0 miles down the road, forever dooming the Circuit City store that had already staked its claim in that territory. This happened in early 2008, which was right around the time time Circuit City had begun talks of closing its doors on a national level anyway, so I don't blame Best Buy or anything like that...plus, Best Buy does offer better prices.

Not that I feel sorry for Circuit City per se, but it's just unfortunate that we lost our "first" nice store. We have had a Sears and a couple mom and pop stores for decades, but nothing in the warehouse-sized electronics store genre.

Hey, it get's you into the thread doesn't it?

ANyway, I miss Circuit City. I miss competition. I remember Sundays I would check the ads for circuit city and best buy and see who had a good deal. Sometimes Circuit City would have good deals.

it makes threads difficult to sort through and search (not that many people will probably search for this ) when people use titles like "WOW so did YOU know..." and "what were they THINKING!"

also i will kind of miss circuit city. i rarely shopped there, but sometimes they had great deals that i could price match at BB

I bought my first HK receiver from them in about 1986 and even my first HDTV (32" Samsung 768p for $2,700) in 2004. My last purchase from them was the receiver in my signature on close-out. I actually did more business with them than Best Buy because I don't like Best Buy (or at least the attitude of the yellow shirts) all that much.

It does and, inevitably, it's apparent why the thread didn't have a more descriptive title...

Anywho, I see it's been renamed, so I'll shut up until the next one pops up in, likely, 20-30 minutes.

I bought ever major piece of equipment I have from Circuit City (except my HDTV), so I definitely miss it. I also miss BB having a competitor in my area....

I miss the Circuit City of twenty years ago that was a serious and competent retailer. The version that had hung around the last decade was a poorly run business that I have no remorse for and will not miss.

I miss the Circuit City ads, because now I have less browsing material when I'm on the toilet.

the only time i ever shopped at CC was the liquidation sale, so while our relationship was brief, it was somewhat satisfying, ill emphasize somewhat since most of the deals i got after they were marked down 50% were pretty much sale prices anywhere else, i wont miss it much

It is weird not having Circuit City around. Honestly, I preferred the layout of their stores as opposed to Best Buy's as you could easily look through DVDs/CDs/Blu-rays by looking at the labels on the tops. However, their customer service has sucked over the past few years. I went into Circuit City in the past two years to make two big purchases--a laptop and a flat screen television and both times I had to wait over 20 minutes before an employee would help me. It's very frustrating when you have a lot of money to hand over to the store yet they take a half an hour to assist you. On the flip side, Best Buy has always had great customer service.

Being that I've never purchased anything at all at one, no. Best Buy, Wal-Mart, Hastings, Target. That's how I would rank my preference for stores to purchase blu-rays at.
