It won't do well. They will loose more money than make.

The type of people that shop at wal-mart are also the type of people that like to return stuff. Even computers.

I have not stepped foot into a wal-mart in almost 2 years. I have no plans on doing it anytime soon. They are digusting, nasty, dirty places that down here in VA, breed the most vile of vile people.

^^ I'm inclined to agree with this based on precedent.

One example: Dell tried this back in 1993 or so through Sam's Club and it was an abysmal failure.

What makes them think anything is different now? If anything, the situation will be far worse thanks to the Internet and all that it offers.

From what I read today in the WSJ, all they're talking about is offering <$700 Dimension Desktops and seeing how it floats.

They will sell like hot cakes no doubt because of their price. However it's too great of a risk for any company to do this.

Example -

I go buy a Dell from Wally world. I take it home, remove the ram/hard drive or both. Return it to Wally world and want to exchange it. They exchange it without question and woila, instant upgrade.

I guarantee this will happen. The people who work at wal-mart don't want to be there and last time I heard - wal-mart does not staff technical people to inspect returns of this magnitude.
