Default Help! Lamp Exploded in my Samsung DLP-HLP5085!!

The Lamp Exploded in my 3 yr old Samsung DLP-HLP5085. I was watching the game on Saturday night and I heard a loud pop from my TV and then a sound of glass breaking a grinding noise then I got a weird electrical type smell. Is my TV shot or will a repair be able to bring it back to life?? I do have it under CC warranty so I am not to worried but will it be able to be repaired or should I start looking for a replacement?(how’s the replacement option work with a CC warranty?) Any one else have an experience similar to mine?

Never heard of one exploding before, wonder what caused that?

I heard of them. Read them on avsforum's projector section. Happens either on a bad lamp or an old lamp. I think for the most part they have to vacuum out the glass parts from the projector and put in a new bulb. Not sure if some had to replace the projector all together.

That bites! My grandparent's Magnavox HDTV lamp blew out as well and they only had it for 14 months but good thing is it was under warranty. I wish people would be more picky about what they're getting other than listening to stupid sales people who are only trying to get rid of cheap clearance items

The set has performed great for the last 3 years. It was pretty much top of the line when I purchased it. I am kinda on the fence though if they were to say not fixable for some reason what type of replacement would I be able to get? The set was @ 3gs &some change would I be able to replace it with a set costing the same today?

I had a bulb explode in my projector once,

Just be careful cleaning up the shards & preferably wear gloves cause there's mercury in them.

Then just slip in a replacement bulb & enjoy another 3 - 5 years of T.V watching.

Ok so this morning my TV is dead!!! I've got a Triangle on the little display where the smiley face usually is. Any idea what it could be? I still have warranty from CC I hope i don't have a hard time getting this TV fixed or replaced. Has anyone out there had the same error and has any one had to deal with CC for warranty work since the closures?

Bulb is considered wear and tear product, read your warranty again. If it is not covered, expect to pay 200-300 dollars for replacement.

Bought my TV from Ovation Indiana dealer, dealer told me they would replace it if it goes bad. My warranty is about to expire, hopefully it goes bad before my time is up.

I'm going to say that those plans usually specify one replacement of the bulb, but it'd figure that you would read the plan you purchased and would hence, know for sure. Or would have called them and asked, by now.
At any rate, the bulb isn't all the expensive, I have a backup on hand for my HL-S5687W, cost me $86 from a place called river city electronics, google for their site and then you can enter the model number of bulb and see what you're looking at price wise for replacement. These guys ship quick, too.

I guess I'll have to wait until Monday to call the warranty they are closed today so we'll see. I just had the 1st lamp replaced back in Jan 07 is that triangle error mean I need a new bulb?
Since the warranty is from Circuit City I am not actually sure if it just covers one bulb replacement or not.

My Samsung just did this about an hour ago. Guess I'll be calling CC for the 3rd time for a repair on this TV. Last time it took them roughly two weeks to get out and repair it. Good luck man!

When I worked at a movie theater a few years back a Xenon bulb exploded inside the projector when a movie was showing,at least 3 people were seeing the film at the time(we gave refunds and passes),I believe it was Shopgirl.I was upstairs by the Booth when it happened, man them bulbs are LOUD when they explode, the manager said that these projector bulbs are well over a $1000.00 apiece,I find that a hard to believe but thats what he said! They make quite a mess too inside the projector!

Did your tv not come with an owner's manual? I know my Sony did, and usually they will list what all the error codes mean. You might want to check and see what your manual says the "triangle" error means.

And usually extended warranty companies will only cover 1 bulb replacement. After that, it's your problem.
