Default Planet Earth on Discovery Channel

This is just a programming note for anyone who hasn't see the Planet Earth series that ran back in 2007 and became one of the best BD sets.

It's returning to television, at 7pm EST tonight on the Discovery Channel (Channel 278 for Direct TV subscribers) and airing every night this week at the same time, with a mini-marathon on Sunday, starting at 8pm EST.

Each episode is an hour long. They're all shown in HD and if you haven't yet bought the series, you'll probably want to after you watch them.

The premiere episode is Deep Ocean.

Enjoy!

Amazing series. It was my first Blu purchase. I've seen the Blu-ray easily 20 times and seen the odd episode on Discovery almost as many times. It's still one of my demo discs when friends are over.

On the other hand, the HD you see on TV is rubbish, and eps of the TV version of this series are truncated and feature an inferior narrator.

I'd just buy the BBC version of the BD (not the Discovery Channel one, since that's just the inferior TV version burned onto a disc).

Just so everyone knows, Sigourney Weaver is the narrator of the Planet Earth being aired on Discovery Channel right now. David Attenborough did the narration for the one from BBC.

+++1.... TOTALLY agree. When the series aired, I filled my DVR with it and loved it.... until one of my buddies bought it and brought it over. WHAT A DIFFERENCE! Dont jip yourself, get that BBC version! MUST HAVE 4 blu owners.

The only thing is that the DVD version is still arguably superior because it contains bonus material, including a 2-hour making-of documentary that's extremely interesting (which I saw on TV).

But since PQ does matter, go with the BBC BD.
