From one of my very reliable sources, I have learned that the Panasonic DMP-BD60K and DMP-BD80K will be selling at discount mail order companies for around the following prices once large quantities of the players become available. The Panasonic players have an estimated arrival date to retail stores of somewhere between April 1st to April 8th. Normally the ETA data I get is incorrect and in reality the players might not start showing up until late April or early May.
Some mail order companies are not stocking the DMP-BD70V since they feel most consumers do not want a standard VHS player feature built in. So I do not have any pricing data for that model accept the $399 suggested retail for those that need a VHS player built into their BLU-RAY player. Here is the estimated mail order prices on the players Panasonic DMP-80K: Suggested retail price $399, mail order price will be under or around $315 once high volumes are shipped by Panasonic. UPC Code:037988983469 Panasonic DMP-60K: Suggested retail price $299, mail order price will be around $252 once high volumes are shipped by Panasonic. UPC Code:037988983483 Specs for the players can be found at the following link http://news.prnewswire.com/DisplayReleaseContent.aspx?ACCT=104&STORY=/www/story/03-11-2009/0004986956&EDATE Last edited by HDTV1080P; 03-12-2009 at 02:35 AM. |

According to this article from Twice that was published the DMP-BD60 and DMP-BD80 are available now for purchase. Must be a error since I have not seen any place that has them in stock yet. I am hearing April as a release date.
Quote "The three Blu-ray players are the $299-suggested DMP-BD60, $399-suggested DMP- BD80 and $399-suggested DMP-BD70V, a VHS/BD combi unit with 1080p up-scaling of VHS content. The combi unit will be available in April. The other two players are already available, said national marketing manager Alex Fried during a press conference here." http://www.twice.com/article/CA6643600.html Last edited by HDTV1080P; 03-12-2009 at 02:44 PM. |

I have a 100% wired 1GB network and would not use WIFI at all. Since Sony and Samsung offer wireless networking built in on some of their new BLU-RAY players perhaps one day Panasonic will also. Now on the higher end players from Pioneer and Denon they most likley will never add wireless option since it increases EMI/RFI problems to the video/audio circuits. If the wireless options do appear on future Pioneer and Denon models they are going to need increased cost for special EMI/RFI shielding.
Any profile 2.0 (BD-LIVE ) BLU-RAY player can do wireless networking currently with a add on wireless adapter for under $50. |

It never dawned on me about the additional shielding for the Wi-Fi, granted it isnt a medium I know the technical specifics of as far as any EMI/RFI it may cause. I do however work in RF.
What you are claiming would Make sense to an extent, but I really dont see it causing such a problem to the extent that you claim. PS3 has Wi-Fi, and is one of the top end players out there (Next to Panasonic). Sony also has players that are a hair below the Panasonic units as far as PQ/AQ reproduction and are very cost competitive. I dont think it would require a cost rising amount of shielding to get Wi-Fi in these players. I really dont see Wi-Fi being that huge of an EMI/RFI causing medium that you would need to tack on Shielding that would cause the price of a player to go up 50-100-1000's of dollars. |

At least Panasonic is smart to sell them so cheap as they made such a blunder not anticipating the demand nor even providing WEB information on the new products to keep people interested since the good reviews of the previous models.
I am waiting to see reviews on the BD80 first as I am now thinking of maybe spending a little more and getting the OPPO Digital 83 that might sell around $500 as it has the best blu ray specs plus the best DVD specs; I have read many people complaining that the DVD quality of most blu ray players is very poor and OPPO Digital has won some of the best reviews for best DVD players. |

I've never seen an OPPO, but the SACD playing ability alone is worth something. The ability to do something with a woeful DVD image, however, is no way worth the extra money. |

Crutchfield lists the BD80K in their latest catalog supplement, $399.
I was hot-to-trot for the BD55, since I read several magazine reviews touting how well it did everything: smooth, quick functionality; flawless audio/video performance on DVDs, BDs, and CDs; and to quote Home Theater Magazine, "The first Blu-Ray player that does everything right!" And this despite there being players out there (Denon, Yamaha) that sell for more than twice as much! (Why in the world would anyone pay $999 for a Blu-Ray player when an excellent quality unit like the Panasonic exists??) I've been living with a Panasonic DVD-S77 upconverting DVD player for five years, that at the time was one of the most highly regarded players on the market for sound and video reproduction. I've been very very happy with it. My 50th birthday is coming up, and I'm hoping to get a BluRay player and like I said, have had my eye on the BD55. Now they have the BD80 with the networking capability for the same price and I'm thinking that could be a cool feature. But I sure would like to see some performance reviews before I quit salivating over the BD55. |

Someone at the AVS Forums claimed that he picked up the BD60 at Best Buy today. That means that they are starting to show at stores now! I will be checking my local Best Buy tomorrow to see if they have arrived!

As you can see, the new 'beasties' are out and available now as region-free (all 6 DVD-regions) and zone-free (BD-zone A, B and C) and play both PAL and NTSC
