My friend Who bought my PSB Status C-5 center channel just bought a pair of Klipsch RS-40 speakers for his rears.
When he got them home he realized that two of the woofers were damaged.(open box sale) After talking to the salesman he was told that instead of the Klipsch speakers he could get a pair of Energy CB-20 bookshelf speakers instead. He has a pair of older Paradigms for fronts He wants to keep it between the two speakers mentioned Klipsch or Energy's. I have an idea of what he should take but i decided to bring it to the forum for suggestion or your opinion Any comment is appreciated and will help him with his choice http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/pro...0105920&catid= http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/pro...0111877&catid= Last edited by ozzman; 04-01-2009 at 01:01 AM. |

It is all part of the same family. Klipsch owns Energy and Mirage.
Rear speakers are not as important as the front speakers. Tell your friend to get the speakers with the biggest discount. I prefer bipolar speakers for rear. Last edited by Big Daddy; 04-01-2009 at 02:10 PM. |

I say Energys too, cause like it was mentioned the horns of the Klipsch I don't think would match as well, even though rears aren't as critical, I still prefer having a sound that blends as well as possible....
And even though Energy is owned by klipsch, don't mean that they sound anywhere near the same... |

i can get Energy C300 for about 250-300 Canadian, what do you think of your fronts and what do you think would be a fair price for them used ? I seen them at a pawnshop and Ive been think in trying to get them for his fronts and putting his Paradigms in the back. Now like i said he has my Older PSB Center so i know it won't timber match but he is not a critical as us and iam just trying to find the best deal for him and to save a couple bucks. |

That being the case, and if he has no future plans to upgrade, then I suppose it doesn't really matter which kind of speaker he's using for rear surrounds. However I would tend not go Klipsch if I had no other Klipsch speakers in my system. It doesn't sound like a good idea to me mixing both types. My biased opinion FWIW, would be to go Energy. It seems natural to do so considering the fine speaker components that he already has even though they aren't timbre matched. I've owned Energy speakers for years. I am extremely happy with the neutral uncolored sound that I get from mine. I don't think he could go wrong with the CB-20s. ![]() Last edited by Yeha-Noha; 04-01-2009 at 08:21 PM. Reason: typos |

I recently upgraded my front stage with Paradigm from Klipsch, however the rears are still Klipsch 8" in the ceiling. From my personal experience, I thought there would be a noticeable difference, but this is not the case.(especially with movies). Now when the receiver is in 8 channel stereo mode there is a night and day disparity.
I personally like the klipsch for the rears, for the fact they are bi-polar and have a sleek design. I have no experience with Energy. |

For future reference, I paid $250 USD for my fronts BRAND NEW, I don't know how that equates to CAD $$..... I love the Energys, the neutral accuracy and power of the bass is amazing, because the mids never fall out or get covered up by the highs and lows, something that my old Sonys just couldn't do with a dedicated 3.5" mid driver. The sound is just so complete, best $250 I think I have spent to date... 2 channel music is great too EDIT: Bi-poles Nice.... |
