Unhappy Glare to despair......

Hi everybody,
I'm new to this forum....I have a question about the Blue-ray on my PS3. I was so happy to begin my collection of BD that i went out and purchased these few titles...Rambo,Ratatouille,Nacho libre, king Kong,Tears of the sun,and Heartbreak Kid. Now mind you..I have most of these titles on DVD. My question is: What's up with the glare on all these movies (My family and i feel that it's too strong for the eyes). What could i be doing wrong, I never had that problem watching regular DVD movies. I'm watching my BD's on a 27" Sanyo HDTV. I have the contrast up to three quarter percent, brightness at 50% and still so much glare. How can i eliminate all that glare that most of these movies display (headache inducing)? Please help!!! I thought i was doing a good thing (for my family) by upgrading to Blue-ray......But now, I just don't know.

Welcome!

That's the first time I've seen anyone post a BD as having "glare" and , as such, I'm not quite sure what you mean. Can you elaborate a little further?

I just feel that i'm getting so much Glare akin to a computer monitor when you have the brightness and contrast on high (prolong viewing in this state can be detrimental to the eyes,, I was told). The glare is made worst when viewing scenes with clouds or white backgrounds. can it be that i need another HDTV with better contrast ratio (My Sanyo has a 800:1 contrast ratio), I know that's minor compared to the 25,000:1 and above that are currently in the market. I hope i coukld find he solution to this glare problem or i'll be out all the money it took to purchase the PS3 and these titles. What am i doing wrong? Help....S.O.S !!!

Here's an article i found in reference to the glare problem with HDTV's and BD's.......

Hey,

Really sounds like the Display isn't setup right.

You may want to google the model number of your TV anyone posted recommended settings.

Or,... Some discs have test patterns on them and setup screens. Lots of the disney titles have this if you search the menus for it. Those might help.

You could also buy or rent the Ditigal Video Essentials disc and try setting it up with that.

yeah, glare is an external source shining on your TV. But if you're meaning something different, your TV may just need to be calibrated for HD picture.

Most of the Glare/Gloss that i'm refering to occurs on the BD movies when there are clouds and or brightened scenes....The scene in Ratatouille, when there in the kitchen(every scene in the kitchen for that matter) is almost unbearable to the Glare/gloss factor i've been alluding to. I hope i can find a solution to my dilema, cause i spent so much on the PS3 and these BD movies. I wonder if the fact that my HDTV's contrast ratio is 800:1 as opposed to the 25,000:1 or above that are currently available plays a role.
Please someone, anyone....Help me !!!

Here's an aticle i found in reference to the Glare/gloss i'm talking about.....

NO....this Glare/Gloss is happening even at night with nothing shinning on my HDTV. I never had this problem with my regular DVD's. It's only the BD movies that are coming in too high on the contrast/brightness factor...no matter how low i adjust it. What do you mean by Calibrating the TV for HD picture? Isn't this the regular adjusting the Menus area for Brightness,Color, contrast etc.....
Incidentally, Here's an atricle i found in reference to the Glare/Gloss problem i believe i'm experiencing.........http://www.electronista.com/articles...s.at.ces.2009/

That contrast setting is way too high. Set to about a 1/3 and tweak from there.

I lol at the sunglasses comment ^ How could ha have bought blu rays for his family without getting them all sunglasses? Doesn't he know what he's doing to their eyes?

In all honesty, use the calibration feature on the Ratatouille disc to set the picture right. Your settings sound funny and I agree with the other poster that glare is from an external source. Perhaps you can post some pictures so we can see what you are talking about.

Problem solved, I had my contrast up to 75% (for baseball games to look better). I lowered it down to about 1/3....It's much better now. I don't get that intense glarey gloss i was getting before on my LCD with 27'' HDTV with the Blue-ray DVD's. Thanks guys for all the advice.......I'm a happy man now!!!

I know I am nitpicking but I just need to correct you. It's just Blu-ray Disc, there is no 'e' or "DVD"

Default Blu-Ray X-Ray......

Help me!!! Is it me or am i the only one allergic to Blu-Ray. For some reason i can't seem to tolerate the Blu-ray in my PS3. It seems that i have no problem watching HDTV shows on my cablevision programs (Here in New York). However, on the PS3 the Blu-Ray HD movies seem to be sort of 3d looking and that is starting to induce dizziness. I had no problem with my first Blu-Ray purchase...Rambo 2. But now, I can't seem to tolerate King Kong, Dark Knight, BlackHawk Down and Tears of the sun. It's a shame cause these movies look absolutely beautiful. I lowered the contrast (thought it was that). However, the dizziness remains. The TV i'm using is a Sanyo HDTV 27" 720P, Contrast ratio 800:1 ,6 second refresh rate. I would love to find a solution to this dilema. What could it be.......Please Help!!!
