Default Getting a Black Pearl

Hey,

If you're up for it, wish me luck. I've ordered a Sony VW60 or "Black Pearl" from a somewhat sketchy web-site and I'm on pins and needles.

My beloved CRT FP, Sony VPH G70, developed a bit of a problem with unstable raster that I haven't been able to repair and I pitched the idea of replacing it with a sxrd pj and my wife was all for it. (It uses less energy, weighs less, it's easier to setup, it's quieter, and so on.)

I bought the VW60 from Electrozone which has it under 3K. Reviews of this store are varied. There's lots of good reviews but the people who wrote them have all reviewed no one else. On the other hand... it's not hard to find a few bad reviews if you look for them. They called today and we talked and they said it was class A refurbished which, acccording to them, means it's new in the box but has been purchased wholesale and also according to them it's never been opened and has the Sony warranty. I'm not sure I believe them... If I was the praying type .... I would be praying. I'm not the praying type .... But,... I'm praying anyway.

Anyway,... it's time for trail by fire. If all goes well I suspect my PS3 will love the "Black Pearl" and they will be very happy together.

Good luck with the Pearl, a wonderful projector. And you are so correct, no front projector is perfect. I absolutely love my JVS RS20, but you should read the complaints on the JVC RS20 avsforum. It takes all kinds I guess.

The BBB.org has them listed as an F, because they have not been able to get a response from them. There has only been one filed complaint however

Good Luck.

Hopefully Tom Petty is right and the waiting is the hardest part.

Another CRT owner turns to the dark side... (or is it the bright side with more lumens? )

I'm sure you'll enjoy the Black Pearl. Good luck with your purchase-- I am very wary of online resellers, and hopefully, yours will come through for you. I will give a shout out to AV Science as an online retailer-- great prices and even better service.

Cheers mate!

Good luck dude. As far as the warranty goes you should get that info directly from Sony.

I ordered my Pioneer Elite receiver from one of those "camera" shops on ebay...receiver was brand spankin new.

So it is possible to get a mint condition item from an unknown/unreliable store. Good luck be with you.

And you better post some pics!

Should be here in a week,... roughly.

May get a tracking number tomorrow even though I'm not "supposed" to get one. The shipping option I picked (free shipping) says doesn't come with a tracking number but customer service said they would provide one tomorrow.

If I get a tracking number I'll have a estimated delivery day.

I'm worried about this store... Refurbed VW60's go for more typically and they said on the phone today that they had bought these from another vendor and they were still factory sealed. According to them since it was sold twice that's where the refurb part comes in. I don't know what to believe but I want to believe a newish pj will show up in working order.... that would be the cats pajamas.

I'm still trying to fix my G70... only the green is acting up.

Well,

I've called Electrozone several times and got different stories everytime. Today I spoke to the manager who was very confrontational and borderline rude.

I was told from the beginning that I would get tracking information even though the website says ground shipping has no tracking. Then they told me it was shipped from Michigan and if I called today they would have tracking information for me. I called today and they asked for my name and number so they could call me back but .... they never did.

Then,... I called 12 my time which is 9 there time and they said the warehouse was on the east coast where it was only 6AM. (They got the time zone thing backwords...but, it was a nice try.)

I want to believe in this deal because it's a great deal but no so much if it's just a scam...

Anyway,... I'll foward this thread to the manager at Electrozone and see if it makes him think about trying to help me with this.

Don't worry about unless something does go wrong. I'm a fan of buying from no name websites and ebay lol, never ran into any major problems.

Brian,

In case your purchase falls through, here is a Black Pearl recently listed on AVS classified:

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/vbcla...?do=ad&id=8897

Used, but sometimes mint used is better than refurb.

Hope things work out one way or another!

Yeah,

Thanks,... AVS for sale forum is the first place I went. (I've been a member there since 1999.) I started communicating with someone and then he said he had a local buyer and I always think you should sell any display to someone local since shipping could just destroy it.

If I have to try to get my money back then AVS will be the first place I look followed by VideoGon and such.

It may show up today though. I really hope so. My wife invited a HT enthusiast co-worker over this Saturday. She did this a few weeks ago when the G70 was just behaving perfectly and I was in HT heaven. Either this pj shows up and my new James Bond Blu's also make it here from Amazon or ... well,... we may need to re-schedule.

Either way,... I like this fella she invited over and I'm sad he didn't see the G70 in action. It was nice. Hopefully, I'm "upgrading" at least in some way.

Hey,

Just called and talked to the Electrozone manager again.

It's funny and sad how much this fella hates me now. I tried to explain my side but he says it's simple bad luck that I found their website and became one of their customers. He said if the pj was delivered on a silver platter it wouldn't have satisfied me... of course,.... he's wrong.

I am at fault for calling multiple times to request info but if they hadn't always told me to call back tomorrow I wouldn't have keep calling back the next day.

Based on the fantastic ebay feedback I found for this place I really believe they are legit (or as legit as a place that doesn't have a bussiness license can be that is) and when the pj shows up they may become one of my favorite stores that I'll recommend to anyone and everyone.

However,... Next time I order something I'll have a friend order for me as I"m sure their computer system sets off an alarm for me now based on how much the manager seems to hate me.

I sort of tend to think everyone likes me but I know at least one person hates me now.
