Default what's the better setup for sound

What has a better sound setup. Two hdmi's or one hdmi and a mutli-channel analog cable. I have a PS3, onkyo 706, and a 46" sony bravia XBR2.

considering multichannel analog cable isnt available for the ps3, you would have to use hdmi from ps3 to receiver then from receiver to tv

Like was said the PS3 doesn't support multi-channel analog (6 RCA cables). You would only use this for a player that doesn't support HDMI, but does have analog outs. I still use my Denon 2900 dvd player to play SACD & DVD-A multi channel music. I have it connected to my Denon 1909 this way. You just need one HDMI cable going from the PS3 to the Onkyo to give you HD Audio & Video. And of course the HDMI from the Onkyo to the TV to pass the video.

you would only benefit from multi-channel analog outputs if you had a really high end player that had better Digital-to-analog converters than were in the player. The receiver you are mentioning and the Sony BDPS550 are going to be very similar. You would be better off with HDMI in that case.
