Default Surround Sound setup...

I currently have a 42' plasma with one HDMI port. I use the PS3 for BD movies and games. What would I need to have great Surround sound with this set-up? I see people talking about the Onkyo 605 or 805 but that doesnt come with speakers, so what speakers would work well with that. I am very novice when it comes to sound systems. Any help would be much apriciato!

The 605 & 805 are excellent receivers and a lot of people have them because they decode the HD audio codecs. No they do not come with speakers so you may want to look into Onkyo's HTIB (Home Theater In a Box). I have the 805 but I'm running separate Klipsch speakers... Look at the HTIB for entry level tho, hope this helps some

Yes..it gives me a better idea. Thanks a ton. The question I have though is...how would they hook up? Doesnt it have to be hooked up through HDMI to get the best sound? I only have 1 HDMI on my TV and obviously 1 on the PS3.

your ps3 would connect via HDMI to the Receiver, then from the Receiver to the HDTV....

To have "Great" surround sound with this setup you will need to look beyond any HT in a box. If you are new to surround sound and this will be your first system, then you can find a lot of good products that will hook you up (Including HT-in-a-box). Great surround sound is all in the ears of the beholder and as such takes work and lots of money. I have a $1000 receiver and a 7 speaker Klipsch reference system and it sounds great after adjusting it for the room and seating positions, but I have heard much better systems and they cost even more. Good luck spending your money.
