Natures Great Events - Blu ray - B
Video - 1080i/60 VC1 Audio - DD2.0 There are some truly unbelievable events on this stellar BBC presentation. There are 2 discs which consist of 3 events each. After each event you get to see the making of that event. I will admit I felt sorry for the herring fish in general. You get to witness how 5 or 6 predators gather them up until they reach a tight ball. It starts with the dolphins, the sea lions, then the seagulls turn up, then about 3 other species of birds, and then just went you think things couldn't any worse a hump back whale turns one with one big mouth and obliterates the whole lot in one big mouth full. Its like a massacre. The birds dive bomb in their 100's. I really liked this package. Its not as varied as I would have liked since the feasts rely heavily around fish. There are some African elements to it too. Apparently this compilation of events has never been seen before and some of the footage is remarkable to say the least. Very educational, interesting and entertaining. I laughed my arse off when a grizzly bear was sitting at the falls waiting for a salmon to jump, when he wasn't looking one hit him on the back of the head. Hilarious!! PQ is good. Sometimes a bit soft but other times its truly excellent. Well recommended for fans of Planet earth. I can confirm this is region free for the UK'ers that have region A players. Works on US PS3's. I'm sure the BBC didn't video it at 60i.
And the movies section of the site is giving out incorrect information again as well saying it's 1080p https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/movies.php?id=4598 Last edited by 4K2K; 06-20-2009 at 02:22 PM. |

The US version might well be those specs. I have viewed the UK version which states these specifications on the back of the box -
HD 1080i / 16:9 Audio / Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo Subtitles - English for hard of hearing Length 355 minutes Disc format - 2 x BD50. The bitrate was mid to high 30's most of the time. I have a feeling PE and this have been upscaled to 1080p for certain countries. Apart from PE all BBC documentaries have been 1080i that I have. And I have Ganges, Natures Greatest events and the Galapagos disc. All are 1080i, with my USA PE being the only 1080p presentation. I can confirm my TV reads 1080i from the PS3 signal. My TV does not show the hertz, but I am assuming its 60 since it works on my USA PS3 fine. regards, Richie. |
