Watching a Blu-ray on a laptop is not what some want you to think it is.
I doubt that anyone would be watching their laptop from 10 feet away, ya know?

Sitting on your lap, and depending on screen size and resolution, watching a Blu-ray there is comparable to watching a Blu-ray on a 68" HDTV at 8 feet.

I know, I have two BD laptops.

Plus, if the machine has HDMI, OP will have a portable BD player that will work as good as, and possibly better than, any other BD player known.

yeah it has HDMI

i cant wait, Blu-ray burner is gonna be nice, i have a crapload of stuff on my desktop i want to backup

and the 8600 should be enough to play games that are a few years old fairly decently.

according to the specs its an LED LCD screen to

but yeah, portable blu-ray player

i was more concerned about the laptop over all being fairly fast which is why i opted for the T9300 and the 7200rpm drive.

I wasn't knocking the guy...the question bares a answer to the intended uses when he asks if it's a decent system

There is no need to ask your question.
If it will play Blu-ray, it is a decent machine.
Better than most others at that price point.
Since it is a burner drive, it REALLY stands out for it's class.

Obviously, he does!
Since it has HDMI, it makes for a great portable, battery operated, Blu-ray Disc player.
Whether on it's own display or connected to a HDTV.

How someone intends to use the equipment is directly related to it being a "good deal".

Sorry to tell you this but.. The 8600M Gt the Nvidia produced has a very high falure rate due to improper manufacturing of the chip. It seems Nvidia cut corners in the chip manufacturing process and the tempature changes in the laptop messes up the vidio chip. The 8400M GT chip also has the same problem. Nvida has thaken a $200 million charge on its books to cover the loses.

Dell Extends Warranty on 8600M GT
It seems that 8600M GT problems aren’t plaguing only the Apple MacBook Pros, but Dell machines as well, with failures reported from both companies.

To remedy the problem, Dell has recently extended the warranty on machines with the 8600M GT by one year, giving users more leeway just in case theirs happens to fail.

Nvidia apparently doesn’t want to take this problem mainstream as they still haven’t announced all of the models that could be defective, all we know right know is that 8600M GT’s with 128MB to 512MB of ram are possible defective. A recall or something would be nice.

I know this is a bit late BLindsay, however, I would have bought this one in a heartbeat. I don't know if you've seen this ad below. Take a look and tell me what you think because it looks like a great buy for a blu-ray laptop. The processor is 500Mhz slower, however, you get the same amount of ram as yours. Overall, I think you're getting the better deal because the video is much better than the intel that onboard on this laptop. Great job and have fun.
