I was watching TBS HD the other day and noticed on some of the older shows the image looks stretched just to fill the entire screen. Now first let me say I do not have my settings stretched to fit the screen. When I watch a standard definition channel I have the black bars on the side.
Older shows that were not filmed in HD should not be broadcast like they are in HD because it makes the people look weird to me. Anyone else ever notice this? |

almost the same kinda reason when TNTHD shows LOTR they fill the 16x9 pic & cutoff the sides. ps - on the TBSHD situation i have a button on my tv remote that can unstretch the pic to a 4x3. Last edited by dcowboy7; 04-25-2009 at 01:40 PM. |

Seinfeld and Family guy are the shows I watch on TBS and I like the aspect ratio this way insted of with black bars on the side like fox. Oh yeah..throw in Raymond as well. I don't think they stretch the picture though...I think you can look at it like zooming in..the top and bottom get chopped off a bit.

I dont think having a preference makes people "stupid." if it wasn't stretched by TBS, then more people would have a choice to stretch it themselves or not. If i am watching Home Improvement reruns, then either way it doesn't bother me too much, even though i would lean towards OAR.

I usually prefer 16x9 but the op is right, it should be broadcast In it's oar. Correct me if I'm wrong please but I thought every hd tv or cable provider remote was equipped with a "stretch" or hd zoom button. With this said though. I have basic 21 channel cable through cox cable because I'm a broke college student. Of which, 11 channels are unwatchable(qvc, home appraisal, cox info, etc). The other 10, only about 5 are actually worth watching occasionally. Fox, NBC; abc, tbs, and maybe one or two more sometimes. Getting back to my point though. I won't fret over it. I'll take what I can get

i cant stand when they air older episodes of friends and stretch them to fil the screen instead of leaving them in 4:3
but i recall them also doing the same thing several weeks ago for Independence Day you could EASILY tell it was stretched from a 4:3 image |
