Default Who here has tried Second Life?

I don't think I'm ever going to get caught up in this, but I'm curious if anyone has and what exactly you do in it (all I know is you can buy/own virtual products, clothes, stores, etc)...anyone here use it? What's the appeal??

Haven't tried it.
Never tried World of Warcraft either which gets many people hooked.

Tried Sim City at some point but was only bored with it.

Also checked out Playstation Home but that was sadly boring.

I'm "casually" addicted to World of Warcraft...I doesn't rule my life, but, I can play the high levels.

Never heard of this Second Life before! What is it, something like the Sims?

it's like a virtual life program where you create a person and interact with other people in various ways, i'm not 100% sure what you do all day on it which is kind of the point of the thread. playstation home does seem very similar to it tho.

I tried it years ago, just didn't get into it. I have a friend though who now makes steady income from it. I think he does it mostly from selling objects and other digital artwork that other people can use.

I wouldn't say Home is anything like SL. In SL you can actually do stuff.

ah...well i havent actually tried either, just by the look of it they seemed similar. i remember hearing so much hype about Home for so many years and it came out and it didn't seem to be a big hit at all...but i guess that's a discussion for another thread

I was just teasing. They have the same base idea, you walk around a virtual world and interact. SL is basically completely open, allows you to create your own stuff, limitless customization, use vehicles, fly, persistent 'home areas', has horrible graphics, can be slow, and has a huge learning curve. Home is extremely limited in comparison. It has very nice graphics, pretty good frame rate, limited interactivity and customization, easy to use, 'home area' is only available if you are logged in.

Home could have been so much more but it has quickly fallen into the world of obscurity.

Tried it years ago but it felt clumsy and moving around is kind of not neat so I stopped using it a long time ago.

law and order svu did it as well, some person posing on second life as an underage girl doing virtual sex shows for perverts got a real life girl that looked like the online one abducted or something like that, it was one or two seasons ago, pretty good episode

i dont know much of second life, but i do know a customer at the bank i used to work at would always come in talking about how cool it is and i should try it out cause people can make real life money doing stuff on there, but i dont have a clue how i would go about doing that

ive always been reluctant to try any game like warcraft or second life where you have to pay per month, because i can almost be sure that with everything else i do, i wouldnt have enough time to get my subscription fee's worth, seems interesting though

I got addicted to The Sims when that first came out. After I realized that my virtual self had a better lifestyle than my real self I vowed never to play games like that again. It's rather depressing.

I was 2 friends shy of being an astronaut. I had the suit on and everything. I had all the stats too I was just too lazy to make more people to be his friend to make it to space.

I'm afraid of trying out games like Second Life or World of Warcraft. I fear if I play it I'll become addicted so I won't play them and risk it.
