High-Def Digest gave the PQ a 3/5 and AQ a 4/5. I like historical movies too, but Gods and Generals was incredibly boring (I have it on DVD). I could overlook the boringness of the story if it was at least historically accurate, but it's not.

I'm not sure why they put G&G out on BD before Gettysburg, but I'll keep waiting on the latter.

I usually like movies from the Civil War era, but I totally concur on how boring it was. Tedious and mind-numbing.

PQ on this one is average, but it's a definite improvement over the DVD. The SQ is pretty good, but I was hoping for a little more. I actually liked the movie, "Stonewall" Jackson is a favorite subject of mine and I have numerous books about him and The War Of Northern Aggression. Some were put off by the amount of screen time given to the Southern figures and that they weren't demonized. It was a little slower moving than a lot of the popcorn movies that come out now, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

No it's a bad movie, it's slow and boring. Don't forget that Gettysburg actualy spend way more time on the Army Of Northern Virginia and it's soldiers then the Union soldiers, yet Gettysburg is a much better made and interesting movie. The fact that they spend so much time of the Southern characters as nothing to do with the fact G&G is boring, it just was not made with as much care IMO

I agree with you, Gettysburg is a better movie. But, to me, Robert Duvall is a better Lee and Stephen Lang was also good as Jackson. Plus in this film their beards looked like beards, not skinned cats glued to their chins.

Yep I will give you that on the beards they do look quite fake in Gettysburg. But I did find Martin Sheen better as Lee. I know that Tom Berenger was great as Longstreet. For some reason G&G just did not grab me as much and was a bit of a let down.

I would also like to see "Gettysburg" on blu-ray. "Gods and Generals" was definitely the lesser of the two, just as Monty Python "Life of Brian" is inferior to "Monty Python and the Holy Grail", which is also not available on blu-ray. I'm not sure why the movie companies do this.

I'm just hoping that Ted Turner comes out of this recession looking like a finacial wizard. Maybe then Last Full Measure will get made. At this point even a TNT made for TV movie would be fine.

I do hope they make the last one, I love all 3 books.

If you like reading on the Civil War (like I do) I recommend the 3 books on the Army Of The Potomac by Bruce Catton.

He has quite a few good books. One I'm getting started on in a few days is Company Aytch by Sam Watkins. Just picked up Battle Cry Of Freedom by James McPherson and The Civil War Archive edited by Henry Steele Commager. Definitely recommend this one, all kinds of info in it.

I got a Civil War Battlefield guide as a gift a few years ago. With work slowing down, I've been thinking of going on a road trip for a couple weeks.

Very disappointing movie. Doesn't compare to 'Gettysburg' at all. 'Gettysburg' had a lot of fascinating tactical detail and historic context, 'Gods & Generals' is four hours of Stonewall Jackson praying, along with a few moments of some very bad special effects. I do not recommend it.

Weird. My dad took me on a trip to Gettysburg too... and I was 9 at the time.

It was actually a long roadtrip up and down the east coast, but Gettysburg was one of the most memorable stops on the trip (along with Disneyworld).

WOW, I sure hope it wasn't in December 1977 would be very strange indeed , because that's when my trip took place, we made a stop in Charleston to see the Yorktown museum also back then you could go inside a old WW2 submarine on display, not sure if it's still there. Then it was down to Disney World.
