Default New here and setup my first system and questions

Hey everyone!

I am pretty much a "noob" in the home theater area and am having problems with setuping up my system correctly, and any links would be appreciated!

Here is what I have:
Center: WC-24
Front Left and Right: XF-48
Surround Left and Right: WS-24
Subwoofer: XW-500d
T.V: LN46A750
Receiver: Pioneer Elite SC-05
Universal Remote: Logitech Harmony Remote 1200
Cable Box: 8240HDC
Power Strip: Monster HD IR 2550 High Definition PowerCenter
Xbox 360
Playstation 3

So after getting everything back to the house I followed the instructions to specifications but, it doesn't sound right!

Everything is connected to the receiver via MonsterCable HDMI 1000 series and then the output is through the speakers and one HDMI cable goes to the T.V

After everything was connected I proceeded to measure every speaker to be an equal distance apart and in the correct position then preformed the auto MCACC.

After all of this I put a Blue-ray movie in (The Day The Earth Still) and the receiver would not recognize the DTS-True HD from the blue ray movie and only stays in Stereo and I have tried everything, and consulted the manual. Occasionally it flickers into surround sound and when it does it only lasts 10 minutes then goes back to stereo.

Any thoughts?

Varthan

I would say it's a setting...... but if it "Flickers" on and off.... it sounds like you may have a bad HDMI cable, or perhaps bad HDMI port on either your receiver, or player

Someone else may have similar equipment though, and may have a simple fix... .... so don't panic yet....

Hmmmm.... This is a tuff one. Do you have any other HDMI cables you can try? If not, at least swap the cables around & see what happens? Try a different port on the receiver also. Let us know how it goes?

Tried different cables no flickering now, so I think it was the cable but now I'm stuck in Stereo only mode.

K the PS3 is set to PCM out on the BD section. It has Bitstream and PCM as options but warns me about using bitstream.

The receiver is set on stream direct.

I'm sorry I don't have any more insight to add other than what others have already said... but I did want to say that you have AWESOME gear for a "noob."

I lied... I do have input. Those settings SHOULD be getting you surround sound... ASSUMING you have the surround track selected on your PS3. You would check that by hitting the "back" button on your control menu to get to the information screen. That should show you what audio track you are listening to. If it is not labelled something like PCM 5.1, Dolby TrueHD 5.1, etc; use the triangle button to bring up your options menu and then navigate to highlight the musical note icon and press the triangle button on your controller to scroll through the available tracks.

Make sure the Pioneer's HDMI Audio setting is set to "AMP", not "Through". (pg.107 user manual)

These two things have fixed the problem! Thanks Crackin and Robin so far only 4 noise complaints from my fellow condo neighbors!
