Default tv Wide zoom and zoom

Does anyone change the screen size when black bars are apparent films? I do and do not notice a change in the resolution or quality...Is that correct..when i do this am i losing any image quality cos i am very obsessive when it comes to quality and don't see any difference which i am please with...

I believe you are losing picture quality. Whenever i have used those modes i notice quite a bit difference. If your not losing picture quality your most likely losing atleast part of the screen. Please feel free to correct me if i am wrong

Any time you zoom it would seem that you are losing some quality. I'll zoom if there is no distortion involved, but if there is distortion I just can't deal with it.

I am suprised you don't notice a difference. I would never zoom. I think it looks horrible.

Not only is the quality diminished, but you are cutting off a significant amount of the picture.

not so...i have freezed framed and zoomed and the gone back to normal black bars..no picture is lost and the quality is the same...Trust me i would notice i am a stickler for quality..hence why i got blu ray in the first place...I feel that i should lose some quality or some of the picture..but this doesn't seem the case...

OK then. But you do lose picture information on the left and right sides....a simple law of physics/optics dictates that. I dont want my image cropped.

Wait how can you zoom and not lose some part of the picture? Thats the whole point of zooming? Your saying your screen matches the dimensions of whats being viewed when its 4:3 or 16:9? Thats mind boggling and I want your TV!

YES...this is how it works out...i have seen some pictures on the community page of Casino Royale full screen and it looks fantastic...This is what got me to try the zoom on my TV cos the black bars were present and i wondered how this guys CR was full screen..so I tried it and the picture was just as sharp as in 16:9 mode...

The picture might be almost as sharp, but you are losing some of the image on the screen, thats what they are trying to tell you

Read this, it has some nice pictures in there:

I don't trust you

First.... if it's in an aspect ratio that has black-bars on the top/bottom, but not on the left/right...... how do you suppose it stretches the image to the top/bottom without making the picture wider???

so....

1) you're either cutting off the picture on the left/right

or

2) you're stretching the image to fill the top/bottom while keeping the left/right the same, making circles into ovals, and squares into rectangles.....

Its not a matter of opinion. Its a matter of mathematical fact. What you claim is impossible. No disrespect meant. The picture cant grow without experiencing some loss of image on the right and left.
