Default Shows that were off and on

Lately I've been watching The Office. I liked it a lot in the earlier seasons but s3 and 4 were blah. Surprisingly I'm really liking s5 though... the fire drill episode was great but there's been a lot of other fantastic moments too. Like when they roasted Michael, Dwight's comments were hilarious.

There's other shows that have some weak seasons and come back strong. Buffy (s5) and Angel (s4) were that way but I never stopped liking either show.

What shows are off and on for you?

Heroes-- oh wait, that's mostly just off. :P Simpsons. Buffy, definitely, during season 4 (yuck). I'm sure there are more but it's early and I can't think of them right now.

I remember two HBO shows did that in the past for me.

Six Feet Under had two very strong seasons. Then season 3 came in and it really looked like the end of the show's quality. The episodes were boring and didn't feel as good as the previous years. The show came back strong in Season 4 and it's final year, Season 5 had people talking about it for a year afterwards. Sia Furler made the the song that ran during the show's final minutes and it turned into a major hit for her too.

Deadwood had a very good first season, a Ho-hum season 2, and a strong season 3.

Those are historical as nothing that I've been watching recently has had to come back from an underwhelming year, but the year is still young.

I think nearly all shows that are on for 4 or more seasons will have an off period. I really disliked most of Lost season 2, and actually stopped watching it and didn't start watching again until season 3 came out on Blu. I agree Buffy had a down period, although I would consider season 4 as the worst season.

Most comedies after 3 years they seem to die out. The writers run out of ideas, someone has a baby, a new character is forced, etc.

Family Guy has gotten stale and so has the Simpns, but the Simpsons have been on since I was in High School, wow.

As for Lost and Heroes, I disagree. I think people except major turning events to happen every episode. People need to be patient with shows like that, that is their design.

Family Guy -- pretty much since returning it's been hit or miss for all the reasons we've debated many times.

The Simpsons -- this show has been on forever and it's expected, I guess, but it's at a point where Old Yeller needs to be taken out back.

The Office -- season two and three (mainly two) were gold, four iffy, five's been funny again.

30 Rock -- I'm bored with this show now, there, I said it. I loved the first two seasons but, something about this season has just turned me off of the show.

Season 5 was the worst to me because the "goddess" was a character I never liked even for a second.

Also S4 made me happy because it introduced Tara and they handled it really well imo. Then in s5 I didn't like how Tara was the one to be infantalized or whatever happened.

I agree with most of the ones being said. Especially Nip/Tuck. That's a show you can love one moment and the next be completely uninterested in.

Heroes - I used to love the show, the first season is still the best opening season for any series in my book. The S2 was good despite the writer's strike but currently, Heroes is just so average. Volume 3 started strong in the first couple of episodes but by the end, it was really bad and Vol. 4 is so far only been alright. I hope they start getting back on track soon.

Smallville - I loved the show up until the fifth season but lately it has just hasn't been great. I haven't been watching the current season (I wait for Blu release) but if it's anything like last few seasons, I know I'll be disappointed.

These days I have kinda stopped watching the new stuff networks put on but two shows that I'm watching right now is Reaper which sadly looks like it won't return for a third season and Castle which I like a lot (very CSI with a great cast) but I can easily see it getting stale if they continue to stick to same formula every episode.

Castle reminds me of Bones because of the relationship between the leads. I like how they handle him being a famous author and how it makes him cocky but also he comes up with ideas during the cases of what a person would do in his book.

Squid. so true =o. I might say the same for Dexter but I haven't watched s3.

While I respect your right to have an opinion, I'm going to disagree with it. The first season of 24 pretty much had me by the balls once I started watching, while Heroes was good it didn't have that same addictive nature to it. For me, anyways.

Which brings me to the topic; 24 has been a solid series despite season six and all of its shenanigans.

I couldn't get into Bones, but Castle is completely the opposite. I've REALLY enjoyed Castle. I'm just concerned that it'll get cancelled given it's timeslot...

ER...essentially it was turning into Grey's Anatomy toward the end. The episodes had more to do with with who John Stamos was sleeping with that week and who was pissed off because of that.

Prison Break...the problems started with the third season. While the second season was merely a conclusion to the escape planned in the first season, the third was stretching the premise beyond its limit. Had it not been for the inclusion of T-Bag and Mahone, this season may have been unwatchable. The inclusion of a new character Gretchen, who dresses in black and full makeup in maybe the hottest climate on earth almost completely distracts from what the rest of the cast and crew were still doing right at this point. The conspiracy subplot was made larger, more confusing, and implausible in a strangely cliched way (I swear this is the same "Company" from the Alien movies). I'll keep watching, but only because Robert Knepper and William Fichtner have been good sports about this thing and stuck around so far.

Dexter...what amazes me about this show is how entertaining it manages to be even when becoming redundant. At the center of every season is Dexter being found out (by The Ice Truck Killer in Season 1, Doakes in Season 2 and Miguel in Season 3) and yet it remains not only fresh but manages to improve upon itself with each cycle. The only problem I had with the program was the character of Lila in the second season. She was overwhelming unlikable, her accent so biting, her psychotic state so obvious and the actress's performance so uneven that I couldn't bare to look at her while she was on the screen.

Family Guy. I love it but there have been some really bad episodes this season.

The Simpsons. Kill this already. I dunno why I watch it still...Its been on since I was 15 and hasn't been funny since I was 25...

Two and a Half men. I like it still but older seasons were funnier. This year they've run out of ideas. Within the first 2 min. its a fart joke or some other bodily function...gettin kinda old..

House has been up & down. The latest plot device should add some interesting moments. Bring back more of Chase & Cameron too.

Yeah I'm pretty much done with Two and A Half Men. But my mom always buys it so I'll end up watching a little.

At least it has April Bowlby
