just thinking about a Projector for the livingroom. I would like a 100" screen (would just fit between my speakers), 1080p (720p maybe), 16:9 (I dont think I need a 2:35:1 screen), a high contrast ratio (all I know about contrast is from my LCD). and needs to be pretty quite (it will be right above my head). but I dont have alot of room (9.5ft. from the end of the lens to a screen) and there is some light from outside with the shades shut. so is it even worth getting one. thanks for any help you can give me

That is a very short throw, for a screen of that size. It limits you to only the Epson MovieMate 72 720P($1200), unless you want the Vidikron Vision 100t 720P($30K).
If you can extend the throw by even just six inches, you would be open to the new epsons, pansonics or the JVC projectors. If you can't move the projector any further back, you could go for a slightly smaller screen and be open to all those projectors. For a seating distance of ten feet, a screen of 92" should be plenty immersive, that puts you just outside of 3xPH on anamorphic films and well within for 16x9 material. |

I suppose you have a few options.
You can get the Moviemate, which can handle the short throw. You can get a smaller screen, which give you more projector options. You can place the projector in the wall or behind the wall, depending on where that wall goes to,(Obviously if it is an exterior wall this won't work) and create a "projection booth" of sorts. I would go with the slightly smaller screen in this case, as it allows you to get a better home theatre projector than option 1 and requires a lot less work than option 3. |
