Default eBay HDDVD - Blu-Ray misinformation and lies

Found this " buyer's guide" on eBay put out by someone who claims to be a "Technology Guru". I know it was put up some time ago, but it is still up there for all to see. What a load of crap.

Correct him with a large, pointy object.

'So as of now, HD-DVD is capable of delivering 60 GB of storage on a two-sided disc.....'

Yes I love to flip the disc in the middle of a movie

Actually I emailed the guy and he replied as thus:

"What you haven't taken into account is the fact that the guide was written a couple of years back when the specs were emerging and there weren't many players for me to test. Since the facts are accurate as of the time of composition I will let the guide stand. (I am aware of the disc quantity evolution.)

One thing I have noticed in my 25+ years of being in the Audio/Video business (I was 14 years old when I started a side business modifying Hafler amps) is that changing specs are inevitable. Having been involved in the development of many of these technologies as well as being the Founder/Owner/ of several technology firms (one of them Hi-Fi, audio/video) I am confident I have a good understanding of the facts.

However, I do concede that it was not an entirely objective piece. You see, here in the U.S. false/bad marketing has reached epidemic proportions. I was very disturbed by the tactics employed by various salesmen pushing one format over another and in retrospect overcompensated in my piece (as well as letting off some steam). I apologize for this. Had I been writing for an actual hi-fi mag with a circulation I would have been professionally objective.

Anyhow, I appreciate your concerns. I would do no less in your shoes. My intentions were to make sure the public didn't get conned by unscrupulous sales tactics. Ironically my company sells & supports both formats and since my writing of the guide we have been selling twice as many Blu-Ray over HD-DVD!
