I am going to be buying a new television from Best Buy in the very near future, and I want to negotiate, but not insult. I can't find this information anywhere!
I see them online for 1500ish, so I figure that's a given, but I plan on getting an audio reciever, extended service on the TV, AND calibration. That's a lot of "full margin" items, but once again, I want to bargain, not insult. Any help would be really appreciated. So far (without negotiating) there's a $200 rebate at the store level, but that's still 1799 + 450 (for warr/cal) + 299 (reciever). I'd like to pay no more than $2000, but once again, that's a BIG discount, and I'm not sure if that's insultingly low. PLEASE HELP! |

Depends on where u price match it from and also depends on what you are going to buy with it, the more money u spend the better they negotiate, but they hardly do so good luck |

If you buy the hole package they will work with you, $1,650-1,700 or less on the set. Don't let "Geek squad" do any calibration, unless they send for a pro-calibrator! Tell them you want a pro-calibrator , you can find one in your area by looking at the list on AVS. When I first started down the road of getting my displays calibrated I had BB do it, but low and behold BB had a pro come from over 200miles on a set date so that there were 10-12 people also getting a Calibration so it was worth it for the pro-Cali to make the trip. Since all of this & buying lots of displays, I have had the same pro-calibrator do all my displays. I have to fly him in but it's not a big deal cause a group of us will all chip in.

I was fully expecting a post seeking "Wife-Approval Tips"
But since that isn't the case... here's what I can tell you.... 1) Don't buy it on the first trip to the store if you don't get a price you like. 2) If you have multiple Best Buys in close by... go to more than one 3) Talk to multiple people..... 4) Mention everything BAD you've heard about the T.V. you're looking at... even though it's a beautiful TV, and I'd love to have one... read negative reviews.... they're mostly full of false information and myths.... but point those out as if they were gospel..... 5) Tell them you're thinking about waiting until Black-Friday or whatever day when you think will be cheaper... or mention a "Rumored" sale at a competitor....... or Free-shipping/no tax on Amazon.... 6) Ask about wall mounts, monster cables, monster power centers, about 3 or 4 Monster HDMI cables, etc.... heck... even fill your cart with monster-cables that you will put back on the shelf after they write up a ticket.... or simply return them un-opened the next day.... it's a little effort.... but they'll slash the price on the T.V. a lot if they think you're going to buy $500 in "Accessories" 7) And definitely take Sonny's advice on finding a professional to calibrate it. They will probably work a LOT with the extended service plan too if you talk badly about the TV and load up on accessories. |

I have been reading that one should wait at least 6 mos or more before having a new tv calibrated, allowing the plasma breakin and set, so the calibrations holds longer with out any wavering in the image, is this true to your knowledge or myth!!!! just wondering....

![]() Also... I hate arbitrary "time periods" for things like that.... 6 months for one persons t.v. is 200 hours of use.... for another person, they may not turn it off for 6 months straight...... So I would think the manufacturer would say (run t.v. for X-Amount of hours prior to professional calibration for best results) Also, I haven't heard of professional calibrators being recalled due to poor results after a length of time.... because if they were, then they'd also probably advise consumers of this practice.... I'd check with the calibration expert referenced in the previous posts though.... to make sure. |

Appreciate that, i was thinking it sounded a bit strange but i am new to the calibrated world so. I have owned plasma's for about 4 years now, and yeah i never did have it calibrated, but now i'm going to, and i was just trying to get as much info as possible.
