Default help

I'm somewhat new to home theaters so i could use a lil help. me and my girlfriend plan on building a home theater in our house. right now i have a 52" plasma tv and a 5.1 all in one 1000w surround sound. but i plane on going big with this one 7.1 maybe 2 with projector(not 3-D) hopefully only spending under or around 10K in equipment but i rly have no clue what i need to get besides the speakers and a receiver. what equipment in detail do i need to have a complete HT? I want to do it myself if possible any help or list would be appreciated. thanks

yeah, you can definitely save more money shopping around...amazon,6ave,newgg,monoprice etc

I could not find the Epson 8500 on crutchfield? Thats a pretty dam good price...are you sure you didn't mean something else? Like the 8350?

And I know the Polk PSW111 is free and worthy of being a "free" sub...but Id seriously consider other subs for a final HT setup.

I myself am looking to get the Epson 8350, been reading up on it and between an Optoma HD20, Mitsubishi 4000 and Panny AE4000...and for the price vs quality the Epson 8350 seems the way to go.

Look at it here:

Epson 8350

...you can get it as a package with screen and other items.

As for the sub? everyones opinions will vary...but for the money I would take a look at:

Lava LSP12

eD A2-300

eD A3-300

You'll definitely get your moneys worth with these.

...call & mention you're a Bluray.com member and might get a discount.

well guess i'll wait for a little while then to check out a review before deciding

You can definately get more bang for the buck with eD. I have never heard the other ones, so cant comment. Like hedz mentioned, you can definately do better as far as pricing by shopping around. I like crutchfield, but they DO NOT like to budge on their pricing.

You can also save that $275 by not buying monster cables. They are way overpriced and offer no more than any other HDMI, speaker cable etc.. Or you can give me that money, and Ill make all your cables. lol

As far as the seating, I bought mine at Stargate Cinema, talk to Ken Lerch. He is very helpful and will help you out on pricing.

I see you're not skimping on the seating, which is important (although I skimped like crazy )

Would you consider a diy screen? You could do it for less than $100.00

I would look at BlueJeansCable.com for all your cables. They are a step up in quality over monoprice.com, IMO.

Where are you with equipment decisions? You may want to look at some of the newer AV Receivers with the Audyssey MultEQ XT32. It really makes a significant difference over the previous XT version.

Just my two cents for today...

This is just me, but I do not believe in them. If I do not have the cash, I do not have the gear. Granted, I use CC's to buy stuff in order to get points, but never because I don't have enough money.

The interest rates, especially at retail stores is crazy. Even if they have 90-days or 1-year same as cash with no interest. Look at the fine print. Some of them can say that if you miss a payment or the balance is not paid off in the time frame the FULL amount of back interest can be owed. I've been screwed over like that in the past when I was much younger and far less wise.

I guess all I'm saying is be careful in your decisions, especially with money.

I have used the no interest option on balance transfers between credit cards many times. I know I am responsible and I have a budget drawn out pretty much for the year, every year. This way I know exactly what I am saving and capable of to payoff and by when. I have done this each of the last 4 years on various big ticket items and I have always paid things off a couple of months early before the expiration date. But as you can see, you must be organized and diligent with your money. And Lou is right, they will charge you all the back interest you were not paying if you miss a payment or don't pay it off on the expiration date as agreed, so be careful!

true i know what u guys are say and the way i figured it out with everything i want and need that includes equipment, construction and other odd and ends for the HT total cost will be around $15K-$20K which isn't that bad cause thats my pay in a month and a half (not including my girlfriend pay{teacher}) but with a house payment, 2 car payments, 4wheeler, bike and other bills it would take awail to save that chunk but we would have no problem making payment. i know the risk

I think the best way to approach this with your budget is to make a list of what you want equipment wise, receiver, speakers, sub, etc. Then we can give recommendations on what to look at. When you go from 0 to 100 this will take some planing. I will start a list. Also what size room do you have to work with?

TV
Receiver or Pre/Pro
Blu-Ray Player
Speakers
Sub/s
Projector
Screen
Cables and Wire
Power Conditioner
Amp/s
