Default Panasonic G10 oops:(

I have done several replies, recomendation's and post on here since i picked up my panasonic G10. The set really does have an amazing PQ, but today i was doing some things on my PS3 and bam right in my face a big fat nast honker of a dead pixel I was like what the F***, i couldn't believe it, now i am still within my 45 day return policy plus i have the 4 year extende warranty and my 1 year manfacture's warranty, what do you guys think, i have always recommended panny's to my friends and family, mom&dad own an 80u, friend owns a 700u, alway's been and excellent product, but as luck would have it i run into the one bad one. I can't exchange for the same set though if i take it back, BB said it had to be a different set, if i want to exchange for same tv because of this then i have to call for warranty work. Oh and they said 1 pixel is ok, and that warranty work may only cover if dead pixel's are clustered, or more than 6 are dead I could take back for the Pio 5020, but i do like the PQ and feature's so any advice would be greatly appriciated

I thought I had one too when I was running the break in images thru sd card on a blue screen. Try running the anti-image retention for awhile. Mine went away.

Wow, Worst Buy is talking some craziness...won't let you exchange for another, but let you exchange for a different model? That's just ridiculous! This is what happens when the competition disappears. I have never heard of Circuit City doing that sort of thing. Might I ask what the price difference is on the 5020? The G10 is excellent, but its still not quite a Kuro and if the prices are close I would go with the Kuro. If its a matter of $400-$500 difference then I would stick with the G10, but if you're talking say $200 I'd definitely go with the Kuro. Just my thoughts. As for the pixels I would try the break in disc like it was also suggested. They're probably not dead, just stuck. If after a couple of days you can't get them on then take the TV back.

I got lucky today & got to compare & make all the changes to the picture settings on a G10 with a 5020 side by side in a dark room. While the G10 has nice deep blacks & wonderful PQ (1080 motion res) there was quite a bit of "black crush" to get those deep blacks in the same parts of the BDs I compared. The G10 & 5020 were both connected HDMI to Panny 60 players, which are VERY nice players! I want one!! $234 on amazon. Compared to the 5020 that was still blacker & and also showed the detail in the picture which is what you want. The 5020 is $1,999 @ BB right now & worth the extra $200 IMO. I hope this all works out for you. I know people will bring up reviews stating the G10 showed more detail in there blacks then the Kuro , but I have yet to see this with my own eyes. The discs used were a calibration disc, transformers, TDK, a Black & white film, 2001, sunshine & a few more. This was fun to do!!

Yeah, i already ran the breakin images before this, this is new, and right now im trying what thesoviet said, if it doesn't fix the problem i will probably go with the 5020, but before i started the image retention pattern i logged on to the viera cast and WOW they have amazon video on demand up on the set now very cool, so just one more reason to hope it goes away. As far as BB is concerned

Just curious...did you try the THX mode? According to the Cnet review when calibrating using the custom mode they couldn't get it as accurate as the THX mode which is what they decided to go with. In this mode they say the Pioneer and the G10 were equal regards to detail. HDGuru gave it high marks for detail too saying it was better than the Pro 141FD in this regard. HDGuru also stated that the white level uniformity was better than the Pioneer.

Cnet's biggest complaint was that they couldn't up the light output in this mode. What did you think of the THX mode if you did try it? How close to a Kuro would you say this set is. The reason I ask is because I may be able to put away some cash over the next couple of months and make an upgrade. If the Kuro is out of my reach due to inflated prices or just no longer available would you say go for the G10 or wait it out for the V10?

I say go for whatever your budget can handle? Yes I used THX mode along with several others but THX mode is the best out of the box. I'm no Pro reviewer by any means. I was just posting on what I've seen with my own eyes. The Pio's uniformity is perfect in every way & so is the G10. The G10 is a brighter set & is very impressive. If you can wait for the V10 , wait. I feel the improvment will be the sigle pane of glass like the Kuro. I don't think it will any better as far as PQ goes , with exception of the glass & 96Hz which help. Also the G10 has a 4,000.1 ANSI contrast compared to 16,000.1+ ANSI contrast for the Kuro.

Thanks for your assessment. Hopefully I can find a Best Buy locally that I can compare them too. Like I said, I'm working on getting some cash together and I will go for the Kuro if I can come up with the money, but a Panny is always an alternative. I may hold out for the V10 since it has the single pane of glass and a supposedly higher contrast ratio. One more question...would you say the G10 is as good an 8th Gen Kuro?

I would say they are very close, with a slight edge to the G10. I have not had the privilege of comparing them side by side (since the 5010 is a 2007-8 display). The 5010 (8G) has a 0.004fL black level & is a wonderful display, & was the best till the 9G Kuro was released, with a black level below 0.000fL (95%+) to 0.001fL , sick). Amazon has the KRP-500M for $1,999 . BB has the 5020 for $1,999. It's a buyers market.

Yeah, I just saw that Vann's has the KRP-500 for $1998 shipped with a free stand. I'd hop on it in a heartbeat if I had the cash. I doubt that it will be available for that price by the time I'm ready to make the leap, but I will if it is. If for some reason a Kuro is out of my reach then I'm sure I will be satisfied with the G10 or the V10 if it equals or edges an 8G Kuro...especially at the price the price. Thanks again for your input.

Default G10 help

Ok so it came yesterday, got it open set it up and hooked up my new BD80, and threw on a bunch of blu rays's to try it out, I.E. Pearl Harbor, Rattatooee(cant spell it right) 300, Madagascar 2, and Night at the Museum---hit THX and thought it would be all good--its pretty dark and there are no "WOW" colors at all, i fooled around a lil bit and changed to standard, then vivid and it got really bright but still no "WOW, this is an awesome plasma" feeling??? Thought the hype with this THX was that it adjusted the set for movie viewing---now let me point out that my new HDMI cables havent arrived yet from Monoprice.com so I used my 3 year old Rocketfish HDMI cable which I thought worked fine in my old Toshiba 50" DLP---could that be a reason? Also in the Vivid mode the picture was grainy. I am brand spanking new to this plasma game so if somebody could chime in, i'd be grateful. Yes I have done all kinds of reading in here lately about break in and all that and almost feel like I shouldv'e gotten an LCD. Somebody talk me down plz!

Timmy, it sounds like you're wanting a picture that isn't true to the source.

The THX mode is ideal for dimmed or dark room viewing. If you are one who prefers viewing in a bright room you may not get the effect you're looking for. As for grain in the Vivid mode, its probably due to the source. Film is going to look grainy versus the polished look of video with all of the flashy special effects. This is normal. 300 is a grainy movie...the way the director intended. If you watch something like the Star Wars prequels you won't see a hint of grain. Believe me when I say grain is a good thing when watching film. If you ever watch film without it then its been tampered with. The DNR process is used to do this, but this process softens the image considerably and makes things look waxy and unnatural.

If you are viewing in a brighter room I would suggest checking out the G10 thread over on AVSforum and get some feedback from other users who have posted their calibrated settings. I'm sure their are others who do a lot of brightened room viewing. It's also possible that you like many others have probably been watching badly calibrated TV's for years. Getting adjusted to watching things the way that they were meant to be viewed can take some time if this has been the case. Growing up I've seen many badly adjusted TV's. My mother never adjusted her TV's, and as I got older I started noticing this phenomenon more and more as I viewed other people's sets. Whenever I'm over other people's houses and see badly set up TV's be it standard or hi-def it just irritates the hell out of me. I never say anything..I don't want to be rude or anything, but it drives me crazy. And don't worry about the cables. $10 cables and $100 cables will perform exactly the same.

Got my issue resolved, took the dead pixel g10 back exchanged for a new g10, every thing works great, back to loving my baby again, sweet. I agree with dolby, i think you may be looking for color's that are probably over saturated and bright, but if it is what you like, it's what you like so you could probably work with the adjustment's and get it were you want it.

Appreciate the feedback. But I am not in a bright room. Dont get me wrong, the picture is very smooth, i guess thats a good way to describe it. When I say not that bright, I mean in THX mode, for example was just checking out Pirates of the Carribean. In the very beginning when they find Young Will Turner floating on piece of wood--the red in the English uniforms isnt that great, nor is the officers blue--i am just picking things out at random. I mean whan you see them in the store the whole reason I wanted one was for the great colors and great blacks, I used the cnet settings and feel like this just is not at all what I expected. New Tv, new Blu ray player, panny BD80? This is giving me an ulcer, and definately keeping my wife out of the room, which aint bad sometimes! I am about to check out Spiderman 3---now B4 seeing it, I think that spidey should be a really nice red color, bright blue skies... That is what I am looking for. Shall see...
