Default 24fps via non-24fps receiver

Hi,
I am about to buy my first Blu ray player and a new display. I intend both to support 24fps. However my 12 month old Yamaha RX-V3800 receiver/amp does not support 24fps. I'd like advice on the best way to connect the player/receiver/display to get the full benefit of 24fps and Bluray sound.
Thanks

Does your Yamaha have passthrough, becuase if it does then my next paragraph is mute?

However, if it can't, the first you would need a blu-ray player that decodes internally all of the higher audio codecs. Now correct me if I'm wrong here guys as I am a little muddy on this, but you would then connect an HDMI cable from the blu-ray player to the TV for the video for 1080p/24, and then an optical cable from the blu-ray player to the receiver, thus getting getting the higher audio codecs by the blu-ray player decoding and sending them by PCM to the receiver, right?

Optical would only pass 2.0 PCM.

...anyways, the Yamaha RX-V3800 is one of the top of the line yamaha receivers...he should have no problems using all HDMI.

Straight from Yamaha's website:

Quote:
...120Hz and 24Hz Refresh Rates
although nothing passes 120Hz at the moment.

Thanks crackinhedz....I knew there was a catch, but couldn't think of it!

Thanks for your prompt replies. I have previously asked Yamaha about 24fps support, and was told it would not even pass through. From my manual is the following:
Video signals
This unit is compatible with the video signals of the
following resolutions:
Video signal format
– 480i/576i
– 480p/576p
– 720p
– 1080i
– 1080p
Refresh rate
– 59.94(60)/50 Hz
y
This unit also accepts 30 or 36-bit Deep Color video signals.

Can you give me the link to the Yamaha quote you posted so I can reference it when I talk to Yamaha again?

Failing that, and your comments on the optical link not passing all the signals, is there any other way of getting the audio to my receiver?

This is from the link crack provided:

High Picture Quality
Analog video (480i or 480p) upscaling to full HD 1080p
Latest HDMI 1.3a (4 in/1 out) specification supports with Deep Color (30/36 bit) transmission, 120Hz and 24Hz Refresh Rates and Auto Lip-Sync compensation
Analog video to HDMI digital video upconversion with TBC

It absolutely passes 24Hz, don't worry about it. I own one and the projector clearly displays that it is seeing a 24Hz signal from my Blu-ray devices.

Thanks everyone - and since Squozen is in Australia, as I am, then that removes my last concern (that the Australian model was different for some reason).
I'll now move on to the display section of the forum and check out projectors!
