Default PS3 sells 1M quicker than PS, PS2 in PAL regions

PS3 sells one million in PAL regions

Sony announces that its latest sales figures show the PS3 selling faster than the original PlayStation or PS2.
Watch those sales increase as the exclusives start rollin'!

All this after the press dubbed the European release of the PS3 as a somewhat disaster. Shows what they know.

Ah, but the media has no interest in truth. Sadly they never had, not on any topic. thgey have a script they like and they shove it down your throat. The fact that PS3 has had a better launch in terms of sales than any prior PS or XBox is irrelevant as long as they can keep showing those same tired stats.

12 weeks into launch in the PAL regions:

Xbox 360: 800K
PS/3: 1 million+

Worldwide the PS/3 has been ahead of the Xbox 360, at the same point after launch, for the last 10-11 weeks and has just slipped behind.

Here's a graph

That is great news that it has sold so many, the more machines there are the more developers will jump on board.

Cheers

And yet everyday there are stories about how Sony must do such and such in order for PS3 to survive.

Seems to me that these journalists have forgotten how new the PS3 is!! It's not even a year old. A price cut is probably on the way, and that will help, but the main seller for the second half of this year is more exclusive games, though a good spread of 3rd party games will help. It does feel like the PS3 is still leaning on Resistance and Motorstorm...

Another good reason for increased sales will be the arrival of a number of big blu-ray movies in time for Christmas.

My local HMV (music, games and video store) has an HD movie section that has three times as much space for blu-ray than it dos HD-DVD

Agree on all points.

I would add that I think PS3 needs to have some price drops to stay competitive w/ competing blu-ray players. Part of the automatic sale for me was that I was already going HD in every way and PS3 had that built in and the gaming was free. When PS3 becomes $300 more than a competing player then you have a separate choice.
