Alrighty, I have a '99 Dodge Durango SLT with the factory upgraded Infinity Sound System. It consists of door mounted Infinity tweeters and 6.75" mid-bass units up front, with 6.75" speakers in the rear doors - all rated with a 2 ohm impedance.
Up until recently the system sounded great for a factory system, with a lot of detail and tight bass response. Recently, the speakers began to rattle, front and rear, with any bass output. The treble remains crystal clear and undistorted. A noted problem with the speakers in this system is that the woofers separate from the surrounds, and I think that's what happened here. I would like to replace the speakers while keeping the rest of my system unchanged. When running fine the system sounded great, and besides, I focus all of my critical listening at home anyway. Would any of you be able to recommend some good speakers that won't break the bank? I need a 6.5" two way component system for the front, with a good 6.5" speaker for the rear. Both should be rated at 2 ohms in order to match up with the factory Infinity amp. I would like to spend around $250 tops for the fronts, and a bit less for the rears. Would Infinity Kappas be a decent choice? They're 2 ohm rated, and the outgoing Infinitys sounded good. Thanks for the help. |

![]() More than likely its the frequency's...perhaps the amp they are connected too isn't set correctly, or you just need some high/low/band pass filtering? Last edited by crackinhedz; 05-11-2009 at 11:49 PM. |

Nah, the speakers and system worked perfectly for years until they started rattling, one at a time. It's a known issue with the Infinity sound system Dodge uses in it's Durangos and Dakotas. The speaker foam on the woofer surrounds comes unglued and detaches from the woofer. Some people have glued them with varying degrees of success, but I am interested in replacing them.
Any suggestions? I thought there were a lot of expert car stereo installers here. |

I have a 99 durango also and it had the seperate tweet and door speaker also. I replaced everything in the car with new components added a sub, two amps and new deck, but that's me. If i'm correct you will need to put a midbass speaker back in the door due to the tweeter playing the highs, you won't get any highs out of the bottom speaker if you put a coax speaker in so i do like infinity and sold it for many years when managing an audio shop. Just make sure you get the midrange or midbass drivers for the door, real efficient speakers too should sound great.
Hope that helps. |
