I have a 32" sony u series tv, also i have a sky hd box, ps3, i want to add a little extra power to my system by using a set of bookshelp speakers.
Im not interested in hd audio yet, not until i have the money for a decent amp and speaker set, but i was reading my what hi fi magazine and they seemed to recommend the Tannoy F1 customs, will these be ok and will they plu straight into my tv? Thanks |

To put it as simply as possible, there are 2 ways to add speakers to your system. Either hook up the speakers to your TV, or hook up your TV to a receiver with speakers.
The easiest way is to check your TV for any headphone jack. If so, buy some 2.1 speakers (good computer speakers will work fine), and hook it up to the headphone jack. This will give you cheap and easy sound better than your TV's default speakers. If your TV doesn't have a headphone jack, you might be able to find an audio out. If this is the case, do the same thing but make sure the speakers have the right input (or get an adapter). The better (but more expensive) way is to buy an AV receiver. This costs a little more, but you can upgrade your system easier in the end. All you do is hook the source (Cable/Sat, PS3, etc) to the receiver's input (HDMI is best), then hook your TV to the receiver's output (again, HDMI), and buy at least 3 speakers and a subwoofer. You will want the front left, front right, and front center speakers. While this is pricier, it will give you better sound, and allow you to upgrade your system easier. All you have to do is buy more speakers as long as your receiver is good enough. Nowadays, you can probably get a decent receiver for around $200 but don't quote me on that. I know they sell home theater in a box systems for around $300-$500 at the low end but they include a 5.1 setup usually. So try to find the headphone jack on your TV, and if so, buy some computer speakers. Voila, instant better sound with no hassle. |
