Default receiver advice needed please

I currently am running an Integra DTR-5.1 receiver with a pair of Aperion 4T tower speakers. Overall I think that it has pretty good sound except that it tends to sound a bit "thin." I recently tried switching to a Denon AVR-1708 that I had sitting around and while that might have helped a tiny bit, the Denon sounded very flat and I lost the detail that the Integra presented. I have heard wonderful things about Marantz receivers (especially for music) but don't even have anywhere to demo them locally. I was considering buying a used online, particularly the SR5300 which seems comparable to the DTR-5.1. Do you think this would be a wise choice over the Integra? Would the sound seem more "full-bodied?" simply by switching to a different brand receiver or should I even think about upgrading the tower speakers to solve the problem?

Thanks!

I can't seem to locate it on their U.S. website, unless I'm blind.

John

PS~ For what it's worth....I like Marantz products and would choose then over most others.

no, your not blind. that 5300 he's referencing is old as 2003 dirt because thats when it was out. marantz's newer model numbers dont even flow in the 100 increments anymore which explains why youre not seeing 5300 on their website. the newer model 5000 series have their receiver upgrades signified by the last number changing in this format (5001, 5002, 5003, 5004).

to the op: if your wanting to get AWAY from the thin sound and want to have a fuller rich sounding midrange and bass during music playback, you'll have to go higher up in the older line ups because they upgraded the DAC's and the amps in the 7000 & 8000 series receivers with the 9000 series being top notch. id advise you to not waste your time buying that low in marantz's line up. their are tons of reviews that all have the same disappointing ratings being posted from those that bought 4000&5000 series marantz but when going up from the middle 6000 on up the reviews from owners get better and BETTER the higher the model. That get what you pay for slogan is true to the core with Marantz.

What about if I upgraded to the SR7300? Would that be a good option? Also, I read a review of the SR7300 and they said it would not be able to handle 4ohm speakers well. Is this true? I ask because I was also thinking about upgrading from my Aperion 4T's to a pair of Polk Audio LSI7 bookshelves, but would I not be able to do this if I get the SR7300?
