Default Upgraditis has struck again. Receiver advice needed.

HELP I'm making a Magnolia run soon. I've narrowed my choices to the following receivers:

Onkyo TX-NR807
Pioneer Elite VSX-23TXH
Pioneer Elite VSX-92TXH (an older model but I'm open to suggestions)
Denon AVR2310CI

I could use some input. After this purchase I don't intend to upgrade my main receiver for a few years. So I need to pick wisely. My budget is $800-$1100

ask yourself what features do you need too? I don't believe the Denon has Pre-outs to add an external amp. The others do. if that isn't a big deal for you then I would put the Denon first, then the pioneers, and onkyo last, but that is my preference.... you should listen to them all and decide what you like best too.

Also consider the Marantz 6003 receiver, it is just as good as these and has 2 HDMI outputs for projector and HDTV... may come in handy, plus it has pre-outs.

I have upgraditis along with you, have been jotting down notes for future upgrades lately, and have looked at some of the same receivers. I don't have too much input really but I have heard about reliability issues with Denon receivers, not sure how true they are though.

Useful info. Thanks for the advice staying within my options. I don't have a store locally to listen to anything other than what's on my short list. I'm sure the Marantz, Elite 07, etc are great, But you said it...I should test drive in store before buying.

Hopefully whatever you get to test, they will give you the opportunity to run Polks with them since you have Polks with your current set-up. This would give you a really good idea of how good a new receiver's sound is as compared to your current one.

My Denon isn't quite as high end as the model you are using. But I am using it with Polk in-wall speakers and I am always stunned at the quality of sound I am getting.

This Denon receiver (the user manual is written by martians & I had difficulty in using it) is a well crafted piece of gear. If you want a rock solid unit that won't overheat, looks good and plays everything...not much better choice in the price range you are at.

My 2 cents anyway.

The problem is this: when you get new equipment, everything seems perfect. After, a couple of weeks you start to make mental notes as to how it would sound better. And after a couple of months, you star researching new equipment.

Picked up the Pioneer Elite VSX-23TXH. I'll be content with it for at least a couple years They did have an Elite SC-07 in the store, but it was a few hundred bucks over my budget. I'll post pics when I'm set up.
