Default Terminator 3 Aspect Ratio

Something has been bugging me. I was a Projectionist when T3 came out and I clearly remember it being a Flat (1.85:1) ratio movie. I remember because I thought it was odd. Usually Action films are Scope and comedies ect are flat (there are LOT of exceptions to this rule). But Like I said, I found it unusual that a Terminator film would be released in 1.85:1.

Now the DVD and the BD are listed as 2.39:1 and as it being the "Original Aspect Ratio". What Gives?

My only guess was that in 1.85:1 when the TX first appears and they do the pan up while she was standing you caught a very brief boob shot, but that hardly seems like enough to change the ratio of the whole film.

First one is 1.85:1

Yes they did eliminate a breast shot in the home video version with a new framing of that shot

IMDB says scope

OT rant: are we really getting so ashamed of the human body that film makers feel the need to eliminate a breast from a shot out of fear of offending someone (and it would probably only be one person!), despite God knows how many people are killed?!

I sometimes wonder what "society" is coming to. Next there'll be an outrage because some female's nipple (male nipples are apparently OK...) gets briefly during a TV show. Oh, wait...

OK rant over. Back to out regularly scheduled programming. :-)

I know it does. But I built and ran it myself, I clearly remember Flat because I thought it was strange.

More likely they wanted to avoid a re-rating as R

For more information watch "This Film is Not Yet Rated"

It was 2.39:1 at my theater.

the Full Screen version (1.33:1) open matte on filmed Sequence, but zoom terribly when CGI is there...

Great film.
But it was released theatrically that way.
It would have been rated before then.

OK, even IME (Independent Marketing Edge) says it was Scope.

Anyone ells remember this being Flat?

That depends on whether they noticed the boob in the ratings process, who knows

Maybe it was just the print that you got at your theater. Or maybe some theaters got one and some got the other.
I for one remember it being in 2.39:1 when I saw it. I saw it twice once at a Century theater and once at a AMC and both times it was 2.39:1.

I'm not saying it wasn't flat at your theater but I do remember it wasn't both times I saw it... and one the DVD/blu-ray versions.

Maybe it was Kristanna Loken's request.

Also, I have only ever seen this as a scope film.

It's always been 2.39

I think people imagine seeing the breast shot the same way people remember Laura Dern plucking the leaf in Jurassic Park. With T3 they see it, see another version at home (the internet or full frame version) and then think the shot was cut out. I only remember seeing her booty theatrically, and it's there on the BD version.

I guess we have only one reason now to go back to the theaters. Gotta catch those rare boob shots before home videos productions have them censored out for us five year old adults. Give me a break already!

I beleive in keeping the integrety of every film 100%. Sure, we can get a boob shot anywhere when we want it. That really isn't the point. What else will be cut or is being cut out of films at one's descresion? And just how far will this go? This practice needs to stop.

Dern DID pluck a leaf in Jurrasic Park. Iv'e seen it. It was a deleted scene never incorporated into the film. In the regular cut, she already has the big leaf in her hands all of a sudden.

I saw it in La Brea in July 2003: Nudity not seen anymore on scope ratio video versions. I think it was in Scope. Was waching the Terminatrix, not the ratio

It was in the theatrical trailer, that's why a lot of people insisted they saw it.

In any case, T3 was not censored.

That happens a lot. I think recently people were saying scenes were in Superbad that weren't ever in there because they were actually in the trailer. Same with The Simpsons. It's easy to get confused.

But what's the Laura Dern thing? I was only 7 or 8 when the movie came out so I've only seen the home video versions.
