Japan Capcom predicts year of the PS3?

I wonder what's behind their prediction?

Similar things were said last year, and granted it got several GotY awards out of MGS4, so hopefully momentum continues and the "Year of the PS3" becomes solidified.

Default Capcom to lean on Playstation 3 for software sales

The latest financial report from Capcom revealed that they will be leaning on the Playstation 3 in this fiscal year.

The third-party company expects to sell a combined 4.9 million software units with 10 new Playstation 3 titles plan for the fiscal year of 2009-2010. This is way higher than the previous year in which the eight Capcom games on the Playstation 3 sold a combined 1.75 million units.

In comparison, Capcom expects the Xbox 360 to sell 4.55 million units of software with 11 new titles during the same period. Despite having more new titles (14) than the other two the Nintendo Wii is only predicted to sell 2.20 million units, which seems a little low since Monster Hunter 3 should be released before March 31, 2010.

Sony also got the upper hand on the competition in the handheld market. Capcom expects to sell 2.45 million units of software on the PSP over the span of eight new titles. Capcom is only planning for the Nintendo DS to sell 2.1 million units despite releasing 29 new titles on it over the same period.

They're talking about how many games for each system right?

What I find interesting is according to that, PS3 did better for them last year than 360... at least that's what it looks like under 2008.

So here's the question: With the PS3 outselling its competitor last year and being projected to do it again with a wider margin this year, why is the 360 getting that extra eleventh title?

Sounds like moneyhatting.

The year of the PS3 has already been solidified in Japan.

I would say it sounds like you are correct and that MS is probably paying an extra incentive to Capcom.

Seeing as world-wide the PS3 version of every Capcom game beat the 360 version, is it a surprise?

As to 10 vs. 11, who knows? Maybe Lost Planet 2 or Dead Rising 2 is planned for this year for 360 and PS3 next.

Actually, what were the 2 Capcom games in 2008 that the 360 got but PS3 didn't?

To partially answer my own question, one game which the 360 got from Capcom last year the PS3 did not was apparently Super Street Fighter II Turbo Pinball FX.

The 360 got a Lost Planet expansion, but the PS3 got the original Lost Planet so that should be equal.

I can't find anything else though, no idea what the other title is.

Maybe, maybe not. Could be other reasons at play.

I wonder if they're counting DD stuff in their totals?

To further answer my own question, if 2008 is the fiscal year instead of the calendar year, then the two releases are Super Street Fighter II Turbo Pinball FX and Lost Planet Extreme Condition Colonies edition, since the PS3 Lost Planet game came out in Fiscal Year '07.

From that table it seems they're losing interest in the PSP. 20 games - 16 games - 8 games. Not showing much love there

Monster Hunter Portable 2G disagrees with you!

It does look like they don't have a MH3:P planned for the forthcoming year of their projections are as low as they are.

I would love to see Street Fighter PSP, and obviously a DMC PSP.

Ok I'll give you that one, but it's an alarming decrease in numbers. Still I suppose 8 top tier titles (hopefully) is better than 20 so so ones.

I think that a lot of exclusive titles for the rest of the year (Uncharted 2 for example) as well as multiplatform games (Bioshock 2) will help make this year very successful for PS3.

I thought DMC was cancelled?

Anyways, can't give us any insight as to why they're predicting such large numbers (and the diff between the 360) for the PS3?
