Default question about hooking up my turntable

on the back of my turntable are 2 RCA cables (white, red) and i do not have a stereo. i am simply trying to hook this up through my computer speakers (i got a good setup) and i am not sure exactly what i need to do this. i am trying to hook it up through "line in" on the back of my computer. can someone please help me and walk me through this!

i found a review that stated this:

This record player has the stereo (red/white) output cables built in, coming out of the back. Since I don't have an up to date stereo system that has a receiver with the stereo (red/white) input, I bought a stereo to 1/8th (headphone jack) cable. This allows me to connect the record player into this cable and from that plug it into my speakers that have a headphone jack (1/8th) input. This lets me listen to the record player through my speakers without having the required stereo (red/white) input anywhere.

so i just need a headphone jack cable to plug the RCA cables into and then i can plug that directly into the computer and have it come out of my computer speakers?

If the turntable doesn;t have a built in pre-amp, you will also need one of those.

You're missing a piece of the puzzle: a phono stage. Cartridge signals are MUCH smaller than the line levels output by CD players and so on, and the signal is equalised when the record is cut. So a phono stage is required to amplify the tiny signal, and apply the reverse equalisation (RIAA equalisation). You can't just plug a turntable into a line input and expect it to work.

That said, a very small number of entry level TTs do have builtin phono stages. If you have one of these, you might be OK. But odds are that you don't.

Forgive me for having a little chuckle when you say that you need an "up-to-date" stereo system to have RCA inputs - they've been used for longer than I've been alive.

I think that statement came from a review quoted by the OP and not the OP himself. That being said, it is chuckle-inducing!

Wait, wait, wait! I thought that 5-pin DIN sockets were all the rage! :-)

The built-in preamp is the phono stage, so you should be OK using the adapter.
