Default LG GGW-H20L not reading Blu Rays

Hi, im new to the Blu ray drive thing. I just bought a LG GGW-h20l. I have played CD's and DVD's in it and had no problem. As soon as i put a Bluray movie (Black hawk down, and Tears of the Sun) i can hear very faint clicking in the drive (as if it we trying to find a start area). When i go into explorer and click the drive (which doesnt show theres a movie in there) it begins to load (little progress bar on the top where the address is) and then stop half way throw the "X"

If i try to open Nero 9, Power DVD 9, or Mozzila. nothing happens. As soon as i press the eject button and the disk comes out all the programs i once tried to open now all open.

The drive has updated firmware to YL05.

My pc specs are:
Monitor: Samsung 2253BW (HDCP)
CPU: intel i7 920
Vid: x2 GTX 260's
RAM: 6GB DDR 3
OS: Vista Ultimate 64bit

Please help

Try another BLU-RAY disc to make sure the disc is not detective (You tried two discs, I doubt two discs are defective). If windows shows CD's and DVD's are loaded but not BLU-RAY discs then the drive is defective. I have seen defective BLU-RAY drives before where the red laser that plays CD's and DVD' works fine but the blue laser mechanism no longer works. When a drive or disc is defective windows will not even show a disc is inserted sometimes. Also make sure you have the correct drivers installed in windows. Check device manager to make sure it shows a BD-ROM drive instead of a DVD-ROM drive. It sounds like your drive needs to be exchanged for a working drive. Also try turning the computer off for 10 seconds and rebooting widows. This will reset the drive and sometimes fix problems.

Using same drive as you, YL05 firmware, Vista Ultimate 64 and PowerDVD9 Ultra with no problems ( except Kung Fu Panda ). Just tried Black Hawk Down - plays okay using Power DVD9 Ultra. Would concur with HDTV that you either have a driver problem or more than likely a faulty drive.

For your info mine shows up as a “HL-DT-ST BD-RE GGW-H20L SCSI CdRom Device” under device manager.

Drives that click are not good . With hard drives - it usually means an actuator is out. On optical drives - there may be something wrong with the laser or the drive is malfunctioning some other way. Sounds like a dying drive to me

I got my new bluray drive today and have the full PowerDVD software installed.

When i put any bluray disk in there, it reads it, plays it, but only plays about 2sec's and freezes PowerDVD. does it with both Disks.

Ive updated everything
