Question New LG (GBW-H20L) vs previous LG (GGW-H20L)

Anyone know what the difference is? The new one is $229 at CC and the old one is $279 at newegg. Strange the new cheaper one has a lower model listing (GBW-new vs GGW-old). From the specs I can find, they both burn at the same speeds and support Lightscribe.

Default I just found out the answer...

The new one does not support HD-DVD - be warned... if anyone really cares.

I'm having MAJOR problems with the BD-RE disc on my burner....not sure if it's the disc or the burner yet. Be warned. BD-R discs seem to work fine.

Default Thanks for the info...

I'm using it only for permanent archival of client images. Will only likely ever use it with BD-R

I snagged a Sony 25GB BD-RE to play around with for now (I don't have anything I want to archive immediately) and it's working fine in my GBW-H20L. What brand are you using?

BD-RE, or any kind of re-writable disc based media (including hard-drives) give me the creeps. I've lost more data to corrupted re-writables than Hal-9000 had circuits. Play with it if you must, but DON'T trust your important stuff to it.

I just ordered my GGW-H20LK (OEM version) from Newegg for $225.

How long does it take to read and then burn a blu-ray movie?

What brand disks are good and what brand disks are junk and should be avoided?

What program do you use to format the BD-RE disks? There was not really a good program to format standard DVD-RW disks.

Jim

It takes me about 2 hr to burn a 35gb movie, i think it was Ironman. I have used Sony 25gb BD-RE (ReWritable) single layer twice and they didnt take as long, bout an hour, and i used a TDK 50gb Bd-R to burn Ironman. I Format my BD-RE's with Cyberlink Hi Def Suite that came with my LG GGW-H20L. I have had success with both brands ive noted here. I Use Anydvd HD 6.4.9.0 to remove all the copyrights and CSS's. However i havent found a program that i can burn the blu ray movie to my harddrive. cyberlink hi def suite doesnt allow you to burn the blu ray movie to your harddrive, that i know of anyway. If you can with cyberlink hi def suite PLEASE email me (reddevils7878@yahoo.com or repost) Thanks and i hope this helps

Buffstud, I believe Nero 9 will allow you to burn the movie to your harddrive, you have to buy the Blu-ray plug-in though. I'm not 100% sure, I bought the plugin, but I haven't purchased the writer yet. So, give it a try.

AnyDVD HD 6.4.9.0 will rip the ISO right to your drive. Right click the AnyDVD HD tray icon and rip to ISO (choose location on the HD). Then mount it with Slysoft's free Virtual Clone Drive and you should be able to play it.

Why would one want less potential support? There are people with HD-DVD's and a bunch of HD-DVD's have not hit Blu-Ray yet and many that have have not been upgraded in terms of picture and audio quality and extras.

I have the GGW-H20L and I can no longer play some of the newer blu-rays. It came with PowerDVD 7.3 and just after 1 month of having it the software is outdated and cyberlink/LG says I have to buy new software. Yes I have done all the firmware/software updates.

Default Problems with GGW H20L

Hi, I am new on this forum, so sorry if I don't know the ropes yet.

I have had no success at all burning any BD-R, or BD-RE using Power DVD (bundled with burner). A few have burned, most just hang there for ever in mid burn..more than 15 hr.
Thise that have burned can be read in burner/player, but not on either samsung or sharp players.

Any suggestions would be most helpful and appreciated.

using Vista for OS
