If you have it spotted for a good price I would say go for it!

If you dont mind going the eBay route it can be had here,
http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-MARANTZ-SR40...QQcmdZViewItem
For $429 shippped. Live search was pulling up a 8% eBay cash back yesterday. That would knock off another $34. Getting in new in the box for under $400. Seems like a sweet deal to me.

This is a better deal. Accessories4less.com is a Marantz certified reseller of refurbished equipment so you'd be set.

The 4003 is suprisingly an excellent performer. I've read nothing but good things about it, especially for the money.

I have the 6003 and enjoy the heck out of it.

evman333,

I just noticed you have a PS3 for a player, so a Marantz 4003 will be able to play lossless/uncompressed audio from all BDs. Just make sure your PS3 is set to decode and send LPCM over HDMI to the 4003.

Other than this, the 4003, though a 7.1 receiver, doesn't appear to decode Dolby Digital TrueHD or DTS-HD Master Audio itself.

Isn't Marantz just the fancy name for the higher end Onkyo line of products?

No. Integra is the name of the higher end Onkyos. Marantz merged with Denon several years ago.

Yes, they are sister companies owned by the same parent company. But, McIntosh is also owned by the same parent. I believe however, that at least some of the technology is shared between both Marantz and Denon. I am not sure however how much is or may be shared with and from McIntosh at this point.

edit I guess I didn't read through all the posts, the above was already mentioned oh well, no harm in seeing it again....

No its not, Onkyo's higher end is called Integra. Marantz and Denon are the two that are related.
