Arrow Michael Bay - By The Numbers

Found this pretty interesting and thought I'd post it for everyone to check out.

Quote:
Michael Bay is a man who likes his movies big and the intellect of his moviegoers small. His movies are simple, loud and full of explosions - to him, a good script is secondary when you have $200 million budget and Megan Fox as a lead. And while we agree with pretty much every single piece of Michael Bay hate out on the net today (the sheer volume of hate gives us hope for humanity), you can't argue with his box office results. Adjusted for inflation, each of the movies he has directed has made well over $100 million, with only two (Bad Boys and The Island) falling shy of $200 million - though both came pretty damn close ($198 million and $178 million respectively). The infographic below breaks down his career by the numbers. All figures are adjusted for inflation.

interesting.

On a side note, I heard on the tonight show when Shia was on it, that Transformers 2 had the biggest explosion ever filmed. They said it used 1,000 gallons of gasoline. In this post it says Pearl Harbor used 4,000. I wonder, was the Pearl Harbor total spread out for all the explosions and not just one single one?

No, he will die by blowing himself up just before something else would have killed him.

Correction: Transformers 2 had the biggest explosion ever filmed with live actors. The explosion in Pearl Harbor was likely a composite of the explosion shot + another shot of actors on a blue screen.

Yeah, most directors would kill to have that financial resume. Screw the critics and internet nerds.

No the shot with Ben Affleck and Josh Hartnett running from did not use 4000 gallons. The article refers to it being 4000 gallons in total. So that shot was all real but it didn't use the whole 4000 gallons throughout the bombing sequence. And did the guys making the Rotten Tomatoes graph even do their research? "Transformers: 'Rise' of the Fallen"? Come on this movie is probably the most heavily advertised so far this year yet the name didn't burn into their retinas?

I always wondered why 'The Island' didn't make any money. I actually enjoyed it quite a bit and rank it pretty high for a popcorn flick. It also had Scarlett who at the time I thought was the hottest actress around... and Ewan is one of my fav actors...

Oh well... nothing tops The Rock... Armageddon a close second....

Transformers is 3rd for me. Then The Island, Pearl Harbour, Bad Boys 2 and then Bad Boys.

I like all of them though. Transformers 2 was his worst in my opinion and the only one I do not plan to purchase on Blu.

You have to give the man credit. He does know how to make money with his films regardless of your personal feelings toward those films. I am glad that Transformers 2 is doing well and I also hope that Bay returns for the third one.

This just shows that the mass generally has bad taste. The Island is IMO Bay's best movie, yet I think it's his least successful? I just don't understand this world.

A lot of people I know see the Island as one long clothing commercial but I agree. He's never going to make intellectual movies but that's not what I want from him.

Anyways, I'm surprised that the people (or you) that made up the statistics were pretty accurate. The Island was one of his most underrated flops, and I wanted to see it. And it kind of seems funny when Bay paid half of his paycheck to make an explosion during a rainstorm. He is just so ridiculous...

That we LOVE HIM FOR IT!!!
