MGM/Fox does it again.... - Blu-ray Forum

I got my BD for Denzel Washington's "Out of Time" today....MGM/FOX are so lazy that instead of transferring the special features to the Blu-ray, they just threw in a copy of the Standard Def DVD with the extras....

So to summarize.

BD = movie only

If you want the extras (like the commentary, etc.), you have to stick in the old DVD...they must have had a bunch lying around the warehouse..

Very lazy and I will not be fooled again by them...

Exactly, I check all the info I can on a DVD or Blu-ray BEFORE I purchase.

Assuming anything causes disappointment.

So my best advice is: CHECK BEFORE YOU BUY.

I guess they could've just not put that DVD in there and charged a premium price for a movie only edition. That's what they've done in the past.....

All of the JUne 2nd MGM titles...

The Graduate
Road House
Rollerball (2002)
Out of Time
Walking Tall
Navy Seals
Dark Blue

Out of all those titles: The Graduate gets is completely movie only for both the BD and DVD. This despite the fact that the most recent DVD was packed with extras.

I don't care. I wanted Dark Blue on Blu ray and don't care about extras for the most part.

I do check before I buy...I can't find a single site that specifically spelled out the special features would only be on the dvd. no early reviews either. I don't expect this kind of laziness from the studios any longer. again, my mistake...

Well.... since the extras likely would have been added in SD anyways..... perhaps they are maximizing the disc space with the Movie itself for the Blu-ray

They're doing it for Spaceballs also. But on the Spaceballs Blu-ray release, the extras are on the actual Blu-ray itself, while the DVD contains the widescreen and full-screen versions of the film.

I don't understand the issue.

Does it really matter whether you are watching Standard Definition on blu-ray media or DVD? All blu-ray players of which I am aware can play DVD content. Unless HD content or more than 9 gigs is required, there is no reason for the extras to be on a BD.

In fact, this could be a benefit to PS3 users since the PS3 can upscale SD content on DVD's but not BD's.

Well when you're only using a BD-25 with MPEG-2, there is really no excuse. The SD features could have easily fit on the Blu-ray (the feature is only 20(!)GB), and the DVD is simply superfluous. And what's worse is, when all the extras are left off the Blu-ray, it also means the film can't be seen in HD with audio commentary.

Exactly. Some of these releases are going to be terrible. I'm probably going to pass on all of them based on the terrible reviews for The Graduate alone.

Don't see the huge deal, as was mentioned earlier the extras are SD anyways.

Would you have been happier if it was a 2 disk bluray edition and the extras were still in SD?

Most blus don't have extras in hd and certainly not catalog titles.

I came in this thread expecting to hear that there was no extras at all and you are here crying that they not only gave you an sd copy of the movie ( which disney was praised for) but the extras as well.

it's stupid that you have to pop out the BD, put in the standard DVD if you want the extras...that's all I'm saying. it's pure laziness by the studio.

Why would someone that wants to listen to the movie with director's commentary want to watch the movie in standard-def?
