I need help from those more informed than myself. I need a stereo theater, but I don't think I want to go the full 5.1 or 7.1 (unless it's just too good to pass up - my current apartment seems to be too small of a space to accomodate a full surround sound experience)...but I do plan on moving within a year or two to a bigger place so maybe I should prepare for the mondo-theater. Anywho, any good beginner setups? A receiver with a sub, two speakers and maybe a cd player (I also have a record player to hook up as well). So maybe something good for audio as well as movies. Thanks for the time!

Budget?
What components do you need? What do you already have? Do you have a blu-ray player already? If so, which? You said you listen to stereo music, do you want towers or will monitors and a sub work? Do you care about the aesthetics? Is the WAF a concern? |

If you want to build a system piece by piece starting with a stereo pair and receiver, you could go with an Onkyo 606 or a Marantz SR6001 and some bookshelf speakers. I like the Canton GLE 403 or GLE 402. If/when you expand your system to 5.1 or 7.1 you can keep these up front or move them to your surrounds.
