You can test them at your local electronics store, then decide for yourself.

My retired sony was a solid performer but was starting to have issues. Well one issue was the volume could not be controlled with the remote for the past 5 years or so. It was the old servo motor turning the volume knob type and the servo was burned up and not available for replacement. Recently though one of the optical inputs (there were 4) quit working and the LFE channel was starting to hum. So I got 5 good years out of it and then tolerated it for another 5. Getting HD audio that the old sony didn't have was the main reason that I upgraded. So I decided to give Denon a whirl this time. I hope it gives me at least 5 years of solid performance or more like 10.

Denon, no question.

And by the way, punctuation is your friend.

Get the Denon. Very solid AVR & handles low impedance speakers well. $150 difference on the new oppo BDP.

Denon for the mere fact that you can download the newest codecs via Ethernet port.

Get the Denon, I like sony receivers and I have heard the 5200es a lot at my dads, and its great, my older brother just got the 1709 and its great, I have the sony 920 and its great, so either way, your are getting a really good receiver.... I would say save money at the moment and get the denon, its cheaper, and it can handle low impedance speakers, not so much on sonys. since you already have a denon you know what your getting....

I've owned both Sony and Denon and I would say Denon without a doubt.

I am a Sony guy through and through, just not when it comes to audio.

Thanks Geezer and everybody else I guess the answer is Denon. I've tested the Denon because I used to work for Magnolia so I sold them but it's been a while since I heard it. I now work for Sony that's why I can get the ES for cheap but I still know people at Best Buy so I could get the employee price on it.

In the latest Sound & Vision review, the Sony only put out 64w @ 5 channels driven, and 45w @ 7 channels.

After reading all the replies i guess you can imagine what company iam going to suggest.

If i didn't purchase my Yamaha ,Denon would be sitting in my room right now.I love Denon receivers .
You would be happy if you went in that direction in my opinion
