Taking full advantage of HDR infused content is a good thing.

But I must say, that’s a rather bold statement (without details) by the writer, which you’ve bolded, for it implies that those OLED tvs can achieve a peak luminance of 1000 nits (albeit in a small patch) in order to take full advantage of the MaxCLL parameter of the picture light level of the Ultra HD Blu-ray spec, when a filmmaker chooses to go there during the mastering of HDR content. That assertion (in bold) would be fabulous if LG has truly accomplished that engineering feat.

Looking forward for proof.

As for proof, wait for the VE HDR shootout, preferably with the new flat panel OLEDs from LG and the rest of the competing HDR displays. Would be nice to actually have a UHD BR player and UHD BR HDR disc and UHD HDR downloads as content for comparison. It remains to be seen if content will be graded to show the full capability of OLED black levels.
if it is, I predict that OLED will win the UHD HDR shootout regardless of the display's peak luminance.

Looking better for sure. Just 5% has a little bit of unevenness remaining (mainly banding).

C'mon ray, that's not "proof" for what you bolded in the past post.

At least you're now learning some of what I've taught you in the past...

I was pointing out that our LCD consumer universe is holding back the full potential of OLED display technology, i.e. it could be even better.

I was complimenting you (at least, for being a trail blazer) and OLED display technology in general with regards to its ‘black level’, which I agree “can be described with superlatives like stunning, incredible, amazing”, in fact, it’s soooo black (and you won’t find this OLED information on sites like (oled-info whatever.com or respectfully (because its ours ) the LG OLED thread in the Display sub forum), but that in professional grading suites, using most brand/model OLED monitors, a good rule of thumb is that the blacks should be raised to 0.05 Nits, again a concession to inferior display technology as a result of the vast majority of consumers watching movies on displays (LCDs) which are capable of blacks no lower than 0.05 nits – and that’s generous, for that figure is probably closer to 0.1 nits.

Fair prediction (even if it isn't mastered for OLED black) but......that brings us back to the issue of OLED longevity, drift (requiring more frequent recalibrations than LCD/LED for peak performance)....not to mention, the possibility of a future nits race among consumer TV manufacturers in the years to come (which would raise not just highlights, but average brightness of the image too, a further struggle for OLED), a prediction/belief held by more than one industry insider.

Robert, when you eventually do the write-up or video of your 4K HDR consumer tv shootout, please if you can, make it plain the size (as some of us have big families and/or lots of friends) and especially the MSRP of each contender.

LG VIP service appears to be building brand loyalty with LG owners that have reported the dark edge issue (around 2% of displays affected)

Every owner electing to receive a full refund plans to buy the new OLED UHD HDR flat panel display (EF9500) See AVS Forum owner's thread pgs 89/90

LG has competition, finally:

http://www.flatpanelshd.com/news.php...&id=1441199949

Now we can see if Panasonic processing will trump LG's although they will be using an LG panel.

Recent check of the LG EG9600 owner's thread (AVS Forum) shows owners beginning to evaluate Amazon HDR streaming on their recently HDR updated TVs.
