IFA should hold more clues, but the bendable set might still be on the horizon (for an even higher price, so even more boutique and in smaller numbers, sigh).

Both are correct. Last week LG discontinued the 77EG9700 so at this time 65" is the largest OLED 4K TV in production, but we may hear more next week at the IFA's press conference where LG will make some announcements.

We're going to close-out our last 77EG9700 later this week.

Perhaps it's because they are so pricey at this time. When OLED prices lower as the technology gets cheaper, I can see LG revisiting larger sizes over 65".

I've been considering 55EC9300 but am currently using a Panasonic P50ST50 plasma that I thought had pretty nice picture quality. Should I wait for newer panels to come out or take the plunge now? 4K still seems limited in its content to justify the increase in cost IMO.

Also, how does motion compare on these LG OLED sets in comparison to plasma? The main thing I dislike most about LCD/LED is the refresh rates.

The 55EC9300 is a great television for the price. Keep your eyes open because if a newer model is to resurface then the 55EC9300 would drop in price. It's always a give and take when it comes to technology. I will say if you have an excellent blu-ray the 55ec9300 is an amazing television and a great investment!

^^ Good post. LG will soon launch the 55EC93900 successor with webOS 2.0, the 55EG9100. We'll also see the flat 55" and 65" flat 4K OLED TVs next month.

We may see confirmation that the dark edge issue is resolved as early as next week:

"My service call is scheduled for next week as well. The VIP service person said that seven new panels have come in and all tested to work perfectly. He said the first people to call are getting the seven panels, me being one of them. Said it will be shipped on Tuesday and the technician will install it most likely by the end of the week. He was very confident that this would now solve the issue, and thanked me for my patience." (AVS Forum post EG9600 owners thread.

I have a hard time thinking of a depreciating asset as an investment, though I understand it can have a nuanced meaning.

I'm not yet ready to believe the vignetting is resolved, but I'm still uber excited about the forthcoming flatty.

Welp, unmitigated disaster so far after the first repair prompting one of those in waiting to get a refund. Better luck for the next guy who has a repair scheduled in the next few days.

Let's hope the next panel replacement has a better outcome.

On a more positive note:

"The EF9500 series will be the only LG OLED able to take full advantage of HDR-infused content from Ultra HD Blu-ray discs and players, expected later this year. While the EF9600 series will get a firmware update that allows it to process HDR content from streaming services like Netflix, Amazon and Vudu, the update doesn’t cover the TV’s HDMI ports. While this isn’t a serious hindrance for the curved OLEDs — Ultra Blu-ray discs will still look spectacular — it is a particular advantage only the flat-screened OLED TVs will enjoy."

EDIT: The article refers to the EF9600 series. It should be EG9600.

Is the 55EC9300 still getting an update for webOS 2.0? If so, I wonder why LG felt the need to release a new 1080p model. There must be some hardware differences (faster processor, brighter panel, etc.).

Correct, the 2015 Full HD 1080p LG OLED, model 55EG9100 has a faster processor and has a higher peak luminance.

Regarding LG's other 2 new mid-year 2015 4K flat OLED introductions here's the pdf spec sheet for the new 2015 flat 4K LG OLED TVs.

LG is launching the flat 4K EF9500 series OLED TVs in the next few weeks.

Enjoy!

Thanks,

Do you have any info on the other announced model, the 55EG9200

Not much more information at this moment. The 55EG9100 is the successor to the 55EC9300 and it has a newer and more powerful processor that can be upgraded as apps and the new webOS 2.0 operating system evolve.

I understand the new EG9100 is slighly brighter than the EC9300.

"The other two new OLED models LG has revealed are the 55EG9200 and 55EG9100. These adopt a more traditional (for OLED) curved screen design, but feature a new ultra-thin form that finds them only 4.8mm deep at their edges. That’s narrower than a mobile phone.

They also sit on a new transparent stand and have almost completely done away with the frame that usually sits around a TV’s picture, the idea being, apparently, to minimise the potential for physical distractions from the pictures you’re watching."

The released info, which mentioned full hdr support on the 55eg9200, make it seam like it's the step up model from the 55eg9600(hdr through streaming only), but it's clear the lower model number eg9100 is the base model, so would the eg9200 be the more expensive tv of the 3?

Just as I thought. The 9100 is full HD and the 9200 is UHD. See update to the Forbes article in my previous post. So, no doubt that the 9100 will have a lower price point than the 9200.

"Update: Since its initial announcement yesterday, LG has revealed that the 55EG9100 is actually going to be an HD TV, not a 4K UHD one. Actually, though, this could be a pretty good thing if the HD model comes with a significantly cheaper price tag attached. The story below has been amended to reflect the new information."

I will not buy a curved screen, but my next TV will definitely be a 4K OLED providing my VT60 holds me through to that time.

I really hope there are some 65"+ flat 4K OLED options in the next couple years.
