Yeah that's the thing. Why not just put the 3 discs from the Anniversary set in there instead of the first 3 from the 2007 release? Then everything would've been on there.

On the flip side the UHD looked awesome from the few minutes I sampled. Will get a better look tonight

Yes, that means not only is the Dangerous Days disc the old DVD from the 1st release, but the Workprint isn't in this set at all! Why they didn't include the 3rd disc from the 30th Anniversary release -- with all the special features & the workprint -- is anyone's guess...but it's not here!

Now this is officially a Blade Bummer UHD...

Yeah, I know I just said "they sometimes do different things" but then I remembered the French set, for a while we joked that it was gonna be all DVDs but the '4K + BD + DVD' banner at the top and 4-disc line-up has proved to be wholly accurate if it follows the same config as the US one. Typical ****ing Warners, we're not even gonna get the 30th anni workprint disc in there. Gah.

Good I kept my original then, I would not be shocked but Warner UK have not gone with the same as the rest of the world before.

I don't know this for a fact, but I would be willing to bet that the team in charge of the UHD didn't even know about that reauthored disc. They probably assumed that everything in the 30th anniversary set was just a repressing from the original collection (which, let's face it, has been Warner's usual practice).

But they're supposed to check these things. They should also know that, by omitting the second DVD, they've dropped most of the extras listed in the UHD's press release.

That is just so inexplicable, almost seems like an error was made here.

Warner used to be so on top of these kinds of things, too...part of me thinks they'll correct this with some kind of "Ultimate Edition" when 2049 hits home video, and they include ALL the original's cuts in 4K and put on all the extras on. There are certainly enough fans of Blade Runner out there to justify it -- even a limited, high price tag release -- but then I think they'll just recycle everything they've already released again and muck it up. Dang it.

Videos like this make my brain freakin' hurt. Guy gets his early, and he's a) never even seen the film, b) thinks the Dangerous Days disc is just a DVD of the movie itself, c) missed the fourth disc entirely, d) apparently lives under a rock and hasn't seen the Struzan poster which has been around for over ten years, e) spends half the video reading the back cover, which we've had access to for months now (but why would he know this?), f) does no actual reviewing of the contents at all, and g) obviously cares more about glossy slipcovers than he does about not trashing his discs with fingerprints. Oi. Some guys get all the breaks, eh? Can't wait to get my copy of this...which will be much better taken care of. But I'm not bitter. LOL

It's cheap exposure, they don't care about anything except subscribers and view count (talking about WB).

his banter and redundancies was super annoying, I mean if you bother to open the disc just to take out the digital code; why not take a quick look at the movie itself and give your thoughts on it - five seconds worth - we are not asking for the moon here .... lazy half attempt on his part.

I know they haven't, I said the same thing. But in UHD terms they tend to do it worse, not better e.g. Goodfellas getting the old DD 5.1 Blu-ray instead of the 2-disc remaster and Argo getting the theatrical disc and not the extended edition. I've been pimping that zavvi listing which shows all three extra discs as being Blu-rays but it's not a cast-iron confirmation and at this point I would be absolutely AMAZED if we got the 30th anni workprint BD in there.

Warners UHD dept hasn't had the greatest track record thus far, like with the Watchmen Ultimate Cut debacle which made no mention of the Director's Cut blu-ray being included, got the audio specs wrong for both discs and also mentioned the two UE commentaries when there were none. Man of Steel and Pacific Rim were both missing their respective extras discs despite what was put on their UHD covers. I see that they've quietly changed the Watchmen cover art to reflect this which they'll likely do for Blade Runner (eventually) if the missing extras are picked up on, rather than change the discs themselves.

Youtube video in "as useless as a concrete parachute" shocker, and I'll freely admit to wanting to bash my brains in out of sheer jealously that king-sized goobers like this get all the cool shit early just because they do these dumb-assed videos.

I'm sure this has been noted before, but the problem with providing any of the earlier versions in 4K is that they'd have to start from scratch, with new scans from negative, color-correction, clean-up, etc. It would be an expensive undertaking, whereas most of the work on The Final Cut had already been done for its 4K DI.

That's not to say it won't happen, but I'm not holding my breath.

I am 100% certain that, at least as of today, Warner is aware of the missing extras.

What they'll do about them remains unknown.

I've said this before but I'd actually be down with a 4K upscale of the current HD 'archival' editions. Maybe not with HDR as it'd be debatable just what range they could actually pull from it (they've got just a bit too much light pushed through them as it is) but a competent upscale may yet reveal a bit more detail over the Blu-ray, along with the HEVC encode freeing up the grain & other temporal information as it usually does. Add lossless audio on top and that's me sold. (Workprint's too far gone to help though, that can stay as it is SO SUCK IT MIKE)

The video of the title clearly says that it's an "unboxing" video, not a review video. He's just trying to show what is included inside for those that are curious and are debating to pick this up. Why so much criticism? Just because he gets free copies early to pretty much advertise on behalf of studios?

Default Review of the 4K UHD Blu-ray by the Digital Bits

Now I'm REALLY stoked! From Bill Hunt's review:

Quote:
To complete The Final Cut in 2007, the negative was scanned at 4K resolution (8K for the 65mm) and finished as a full 4K Digital Intermediate. This has been given a new High Dynamic Range color grade (HDR-10) and is now available on the 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray format. The result is simply spectacular. The increase in fine detail visible here, even given the use of anamorphic lenses, leaves no doubt whatsoever that this is full 4K. You see it in things like the texture of skin and pores on faces, the collar of Deckard’s jacket, the finish on the “Ennis House” tiles on the wall of his apartment, the backlit shimmer of Pris’ hair and the reflective material in her coat, the different fabrics of Rachel’s blouse, the sticker on the windscreen of Gaff’s Spinner, the wash of rust or paint on the side of the Tyrell Corporation building, the pictures on the sides of Bryant’s lamp shade, hell… even the lettering on Deckard’s apartment keycard, which you can now read briefly in one shot. Grain is ever-present but never excessive; it’s just right to retain the look of a proper photochemical film production. And – oh, my god – the HDR! The film’s colors are incredible – more rich and vibrant looking than ever, but always accurate. Neon glows brightly, reflections shimmer, the Spinner Police lights flash and gleam. Scott and DP Jordan Cronenweth employed copious atmospherics in their framing and staging, and the HDR enhances those such a way that a wonderful sense of depth is added to the image here. The foreground shadows are ink black, while the backlit fog and mist in the background is more luminous. In between, highlights pick out details you’ve never noticed before. Look at the depth on Roy Batty’s face as he talks about glittering C-beams near the Tanhauser Gate, the details of his face sculpted in different colored reflections. I’ve seen this film quite literally hundreds of times. I’ve never seen it looking this good before. For a cinema classic, shot on film, this 4K Ultra HD presentation is a genuine stunner.

Excited by early reviews. Don't care much about the bonus discs as I have the previous set anyway and not gonna sell it. Only thing that worries me is stacked discs... if the UHD is on top it might get some scratches.
