At least that part I can answer.

A new Blu-ray does not exist.
The 4K UHD always came with the 2007 Blu-ray.

Good to know. I ordered the French 4k 4-disc edition (1x4k, 2x Blu-rays, 1xDVD) for 10€ today.

So I can just swap the DVD for the 2007 Blu-ray.

Only The Final Cut was ever included. The Blu-ray is the same as the old one. One guy said he didn't get a digital copy but we don't really know if that's official or not.

Just bought from a local Best Buy and I can confirm that the newer packaging does NOT come with a digital copy

Exchanged it because the front of the case had a razor cut through the outer clear window. Two more on the shelf. One looked just like the one I bought and had damage to plastic case (again looked from razor blade). Other looked identical except for 30th anniversary sticker. Exchanged for the 30th anniversary stickerand it had a digital code. Code said it expired October 2018 but worked through Movies Anywhere anyways.

Digital codes do not expire, even when the slip has a printed "expiration" date. (long story, but only the very oldest (first every released) codes have expired and some older Universal codes)

Point being, anyone searching for the above stickered edition in hopes of finding a code with your copy, there is no hurry, the digital copy will be valid. If you want to maximize the code, redeem in Vudu for both UV and MA (redeeming in MA gets you only MA rights, no UV rights).

Wait, when I redeem on the MA site, I get a copy in Vudu (as well as in iTunes). Why is that?

Because you have those services connected to MA. So that is the draw of digital services, that they port to every venue you have connected. UV, the system previous to MA (and still in operation, though under siege from Disney/MA), works the same way.

So I have FandangoNow (FN), Movies Anywhere (MA), and Vudu connect to MA (in this case, MA the system of storing my owned titles). If I buy or redeem a code in Vudu, that movie ports to FN and MA. If I buy a movie in FN, it ports to Vudu and MA, because they are all connected to MA. If I had an iTunes account connected, they would port to my iTunes account.

UV account works the same, but is Vudu, FN, and the studio sites (Paramount, Sony, Warner). You need it for non-MA studios like Paramount. So if you connect your UV account to Vudu, FN, Paramount, Sony, and Waner, you get the movie porting to all of those (though can only be streamed in Vudu or FN). The advantage to redeeming Sony and Warner codes in Vudu is that you get both UV and MA rights. Paramount is not a part of MA, UV only (and iTunes, dual redeem).

If you redeem Blade Runner in MA, you only get MA rights. This may not matter if you have never invited anyone to share your UV account (long story, this sharing was discontinued for new accounts), that being the main reason at this point. But nonetheless, to "maximize" those codes, you may as well redeem in Vudu to get both (but make sure you have a UV account, and linked to Vudu etc). Maybe sometime in the future it won't matter, but for now, it might matter.

Watched the original and sequel back to back today. This was my first UHD and it’s still one of the best. The audio is absolutely perfect.

Not when played on a non-Atmos set up, especially when played on a 5.1 set up, it downmixes badly.

Yeah I read rumblings about it. I’ve only heard the Atmos track and it’s glorious.

This is not true at all. In addition to ATMOS, I own several high end 2ch stereo setups and this mix is absolutely out of this world fantastic.

On my 5.1 system the Atmos track does not downmix very well. It sounds unbalanced and unpleasant which is atypical for me with Atmos tracks.

What about the embedded AC3 5.1? What is that like?

Even more so in stereo. I have not noticed that from other Atmos mix when downmixed to stereo.

It gives the impression they had not access to the multitrack and used the 5.1 mix as Atmos bed and added some effects "up in the air"...

I don't know what brand or model of player you have but I'm sure most if not all have audio settings to change Bitstream or PCM. Dolby Atmos and Dolby TrueHD have metadata that tells the A/V receiver how to downmix the track to 5.1, if you set your player to PCM instead of Bitstream your player will plainly decompress the 7.1 channels ignoring all metadata and will send the audio track as PCM 7.1 with no metadata so your receiver will do the downmixing to 5.1 as it fits best, this can make this audio track sounding better, at least its sounds better this way with the combination Sony UBP X-800 as player and 2012's Pioneer SC LX-76 (Elite range in the US) which is a 9.1 receiver but I got this because its audio quality and being able to bi-amp the three front channels. 5.1 is good enough for me and my room is not big, I think adding an aditional pair of speakers and configure my receiver to 7.1 could make a sonic mess in such a small room.
Try the Bitstream to PCM change to play Blade Runner, it may work out for you.

Just as bad. I'd hoped that it was secretly the 2007 5.1 Final Cut mix but nope, it's the same borked downmix-of-the-new-remix as what the TrueHD core represents.
