I always spin this on rainy days(weird quirk of mine)and its pouring today, though now i have a much better reason for watching(listening)tonight. What a terrible loss of a true master. RIP Vangelis.

I have a few Blade Runner soundtrack releases, including a boot, but I've listened to Vangelis ever since I first heard Heaven and Hell (1975).

We always used to spin his Oceanic (1996) first whenever we rented out the beach cabin.

As an electronic musician, I've always been inspired by Vangelis's music and recording techniques, through all of his different phases. Every synth I've played seems to have had patches created in homage to the Greek master.

He will be missed, but never forgotten.

Chris

Edit: for the curious, Vangelis also released a few pop albums with vocalist Jon Anderson (of Yes fame) that are also good listens.

"Italian Song" and "So Long Ago, So Clear" are my two favorites from his collaborations with Jon Anderson. Anderson's voice mixes like heaven with Vangelis's synthscapes.

What impresses me most is that this piece existed before the film, it was featured on his 1980 album See You Later, but it feels like it was always meant to be there on film.

"So Long Ago, So Clear" was the first thing I listened to after I read the news.

Check this one out. It's a re-recording, but sounds identical to Vangelis score and probably the closest thing we'll get to an honest to goodness soundtrack.

Nah. Get one of the bootlegs. They're not re-recordings and sound great.

I’m with Indy on this one. The boots are sadly the only releases that do right by this magnificent score.

Have you listened to Rothermich's recording? For real, it sounds incredible and just as it sounds in the film. I think he's even using the same equipment Vangelis used.

There are so many options for the Vangelis score from Blade Runner (legitimate and bootleg):

https://www.discogs.com/master/12717...s-Blade-Runner

A few have an extended version of "Blade Runner Blues" (10+ minutes!) along with other tracks, though no official releases appear to have it.

This is one of those film soundtracks that has always mystified me. Vangelis made an incredible score, why not make his complete work more accessible to the fans of the film and Vangelis?

I never touch re-recordings. Ever. Hard and fast personal rule.

Well, no offense, but that's a dumb rule. Rothermich's Blade Runner re-recording is outstanding, as are the Conan re-recordings, which actually match the way Poledouris always wanted the scores to sound. The original recordings are not the most dynamic.

How could someone possibly be offended by being called dumb?

I called the rule dumb, not you personally.

I have no interest in any CONAN soundtrack.
