Well, if you need the 2006 DVD for completion's sake, it can be had for pennies online despite being a limited run. There's still a tonne out there, just like the snappers

I waffle between liking DC and FC more but having them all in the set makes me not worry about it so much. The first version I saw was the theatrical cut on HBO.

When I got my first DVD player I bought the Blade Runner Director's Cut DVD and it quickly became my favorite film. The Final Cut only made me love it more.

I wish I still had my BD Briefcase set. It was neat but took up too much room and I think I needed some money at the time so I sold it. I did get spinner Hallmark Christmas ornament.
Similar for me (and a lot of people I think), my first time seeing it as a teen I had expected an action movie. I remember being really disappointed in it.

Then I revisited the film a few years later when the Final Cut came out, and it became my favourite movie of all time. I went back and watched each cut and absorbed anything I could about the film.

I love that this movie's impact can be felt in almost every sci-fi film that came after it. The Sci-Fi film genre owes as much to Blade Runner as it does to Star Trek, Star Wars, Forbidden Planet, any any other Sci-Fi classic that pre-dates it.

Star Wars wasn't sci-fi back then.

Yeah I didn’t care for BR when I saw it as a kid, I rented it and didn’t even finish it, I was so bored. With Harrison Ford I expected an exciting, fist-pumping romp but of course this is Ridley Scott - who has never let go of his 70’s nihilism, his films are nearly always nasty and depressing.

Now I really appreciate it, mainly for its incredible atmosphere and Rutger’s performance. I still don’t find it a riveting story and Deckard is one of the blandest protagonists of all time (and slightly rapey) which is an achievement when you’ve got Harrison Ford playing him. But yeah, lighting up a spliff and firing up Blade Runner is mesmerising.

I wasn’t very taken with 2049. It kept the dullness but didn’t have the noir atmosphere - it’s mostly daytime and replaces Vangelis’ dreamy synths with Zimmer’s robot-fart noise - and no character to rival Batty. Not a bad film by any means, and I’m glad they didn’t make a dumbed down sequel, but I was checking my watch in the theatre and felt no urge to add it to my collection.

If you ask Lucas what genre Star Wars is he will give a different answer every ten minutes.

I’m going to be the odd man out and say that Star Wars is neither sci-fi nor fantasy, clearly you guys forgot the original titles crawl Where it says, “Long ago and far away” it’s totally classified as fictitious Ancient World History…

Just heard about Joe Turkel. I got to meet him at the San Diego Comic Con, I think it was in 2002 for the Blade Runner 20th anniversary. He was on a panel with Joanna Cassidy and William Sanderson. I think Paul Sammon was there as well.

I remember it being pretty low key and not very well attended. The actors also had an autograph booth where I got to talk to them a little. They were all super nice. Hard to believe how not-a-big-deal all of this was at the time, before Comic Con started becoming insanely huge.

Yeah, I miss the old Wizard World Comic-Con events with actual fans. When the marvel movie franchise exploded the Cons became full of way to many other types. Use to you could go in and spend half a day setting with and talking to random famous people and pics and autographs were free, near free, around $10 at most….now you have to pay for special rooms and $20-50 or more for autographs and pics. I spent most of one of my days back in I believe (2002 or 2006) Comic-Con setting and talking with Lou Ferrigno, chatted up Jay from Jay and silent bob, spoke to the Wachowski bros at a comic book table. Talked with Michael Turner, Joshua Middleton, David Mack, The Kuberts And so on and spent no money except on comics and all those guys were top notch and made time for you at no cost. I did buy a poster from Lou for $20.00 but only cause it looked like he was having a slow day.

Ohh yes. I watch alternate cuts when in the mood. But when it comes to personal preference or just for a typical casual viewing I usually do theatrical.

It's funny, I watched the international theatrical last night with some beer and biscuits. Livin' the dream.

I'm curious, which cut do you reckon is your most-watched? Like, when you're in the mood to watch Blade Runner, is there a cut you default to most of the time?

And, when you don't watch that one, is there another you default to as the second choice?

The Director's Cut is probably my most frequently watched. It was the one I watched repeatedly on VHS prior to the multi-cut release coming out in 2007. It's also the version I'm most likely to watch when I'm in the mood to watch Blade Runner, although I do find myself watching one of the other pre-2007 cuts more and more often. It's rare I watch The Final Cut at home. I've seen it plenty in the past few years, but that's largely due to it being the go-to version for theatrical showings (I've watched BR on the big screen eight times, and it's always been The Final Cut).
