In Southeast Asia, they do.
They also edit their shows like Game of Thrones and Euphoria.
It’s because Southeast Asian channels have to conform to the extremely strict censorship standards of Singapore as well as majority Muslim countries like Malaysia and Indonesia.

This is curious! But what about Terry Rawlings in the process?

BTW: no new edition this year? I would love a gift set...

I don't know how much was edited by each. She is listed as editor, he as supervising editor

That's kind of funny considering all the continuity problems in the theatrical cut from 1982. It was practically a broken movie. I remember seeing Harrison at the kiosk buying his drink with Rachel standing behind him in the crowd (Gaff even acknowledges her when he walks past her) when this all happens BEFORE Deckard sees her across the street and gets attacked by Leon. I rather wish the FC fixed that by running the scenes in proper order per the script but I understand how some errors are part of the Blade Runner lore/ charm. It was all caused by the number of escaped Reps changing (and the fifth Rep, Mary being cut to save money), but when they fixed Bryant's earlier flubb they didn't need to maintain that continuity error on the streets.

From what I understand, Marsha Nakashima was hired as a "cover." Terry Rawlings was the editor of the film, but couldn't be credited as such as he wasn't yet a member of the American union. (I guess it wasn't an issue on Alien, as that was technically a British co-production.)

That would certainly explain the situation. Rawlings also gets credited in the opening credits, while Marsha is just credited in the end credits in small letters. If you blink, you'll miss it. Thanks for clearing that up.

Lightning deal at Amazon for $12.99 right now. I got a copy. I think it's the lowest it's ever been.

The shot with Batty looking down at Deckard as the rising choral score always makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.

You tend to get a lot of debate about whether Deckard being a replicant damages the anti slavery theme but honestly I don't think it does at all, its great film making that allows for that story AND the existentialism to work.

Although really it always stand out to me that its a film that doesnt waste a second, there are literally no scenes or even shots in it which are perfunctory, no exposition just for its own sake. I don't think theres ever been a film maker as hard working as Scott here in terms of making sure every second of his film had maximum effort put into it.

Yeah, it’s an incomprehensible mess.

Just ordered this with the prime day sale. I have the 5 disc blu-ray set. Is my understanding correct that the 4K comes with duplicates of some of the discs from the old set? Trying to decide if I should just keep both sets or somehow combine them into an "ultimate" set and get rid of the duplicates.

Basically you get three out of the five discs in the set. But only discs 1, 2 and 4.

Looks nicer to have duplicates in my opinion. Two Blade Runner boxes tells me you're a collector and you love this movie. The discs being in their original package or cover also makes it more a collector's item.

I'd be shocked if more and more broadcast/streaming airings of movies aren't censored to remove certain language and whatnot in the coming decades. Already some minor examples, more will come.

Hopefully purchased versions are unaffected, but Toy Story 2 already shows cause for concern.

This is my main reason for still buying discs, in addition to picture quality.

I know when the Atmos mix is brought up in regards to Blade Runner, it's usually what was added/changed versus the 5.1 mix, but I wonder if anyone else has noticed things being removed?

During Zhora's death scene, that final bit of glass falling and shattering that was silent in the previous versions and given a nice, sparkly sound in the The Final Cut's 5.1 mix is again silent in the Atmos. Particularly jarring when the 4K lays so much new foley overtop of that section already, why roll back the only thing that could be called a correction?
