Alcon is publishing the game digitally, and they made 2049, so it is still possibly canon, but somehow never brought up.
Playing the game, I never saw anything that contradicts the movies, the 2049 prologue shorts, or Black Lotus.
It's probably still canon, but not likely to be referenced again and I doubt any future projects will worry about contradicting it.

I am still surprised that WB screwed up the first UHD release of this movie as far as the extea discs go. Unbelievable that they did not use the BD discs from the 2nd BD edition!

I have the 4K, but have not watched it yet. Is it possible that they CAN do all versions in 4K in the future? Would the workprint be the only one they would skip? What I mean is, do all the different versions have OCNs/IPs in good enough condition to scan for 4K? I have the 1st BD edition, and cannot remember the condition of the various cuts.

That stuff is always "canon" until it suddenly isn't when someone wants to contradict it in an actual movie or show.

No, it's just a game - games are not canon.

For the Archival Versions, is the 5.1 track the original 70mm six-track mix or is it a remix?

Original according to Ridley Scott in his printed message included in the 2007 ultimate set.

Interesting. Since the surround channels in at least the Archival Versions are separate and not duplicated like most 70mm six-track mixes and as claimed by in70mm.com. Is it possible that Blade Runner was actually split surrounds 5.1 in 70mm screenings instead of the more common 4.2 70mm prints?

I haven’t checked the Workprint 5.1 mix yet.

Playing the game, I never saw anything that contradicts the movies, the 2049 prologue shorts, or Black Lotus.
The characters in the game talk about Nexus-6 replicants as if they all have implanted memories, whereas in the original film that only applies to Rachael (hence Tyrell describing her as an experiment). Other than that, I can't think of anything else that contradicts the continuity. Like Velvet said, these kind of "expanded universe" things are always canon until someone later decides that they're not, lol.

Yeah it’s kind of like asking if Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis is “canon.” It’ll never he specifically acknowledged, but it’s funny to think about— like if Phoebe Waller Bridge’s character in Dial of Destiny were to bring up Atlantis, would Indy be all like “oh yeah I found that, my girlfriend at the time got possessed by an Atlantean spirit” lol.

The 2013 Blu-ray SD bonuses are re-encoded to MPEG-4 AVC albeit still 720x480i.
It's not the Blu-ray players that handle it poorly, the video encoding is borked compared to the DVD bonuses.
Even the Archival Versions intros on Disc 2 are poorly reencoded to MPEG-4 AVC in at least the 2013 EU release, while the 2007 Archival disc still had superior MPEG-2 encodes with higher bitrates. This might be one of the only times when MPEG-2 was better than MPEG-4 AVC.

That said, the MPEG-4 AVC Archival Versions and Workprint look better than the 2007 BDs. Such a shame they still left the Archival audio in Dolby Digital, while The Final Cut was still VC-1.

Any film can be scanned in 4K if they have a mind to. No, there's not as much to be gained from poorer quality sources but I've seen enough on 4K now to know that even sources a few generations removed from OCN have benefits to be had when handled well.

It's not an MPEG-2 vs. H.264 issue, WB literally dropped an entire field of video when they """deinterlaced""" it so you're basically getting half the vertical resolution of the DVDs. I'm genuinely surprised there wasn't a replacement program or at least a quiet fix on another print run, it's extremely obvious that something's wrong when you sit down and watch it.

They still do it, mangle interlaced content (even already deinterlaced 60i aka 30p) to 24p for extras. I can live with it done well, but all to often it's a terrible quality temporal downsample leading to juddery motion.

Hopefully this is gonna be a thing of the past now 4K allows for 30 and 60p progressive encodes, but baring a few exceptions like Universal encoding some extras on 4K disc as 60p, I doubt it. They seem to think everyone wants 24p without understanding that was just for the movies.

Kinda like my recent complaint about the Jaws 4K. The old BD had the deleted scenes in 4:3 letterboxed but encoded decent (enough at least) while the 4K has them upconverted to 16:9 but encoded horribly because the footage is very jumpy now.
