So... you don't want to get the new and improved disc format and not be a 90%-er? You are on a site called Blu-ray.com after all with most trying to strive for the best a/v presentation they can.

Directv looks good on my 4k TV but I don't have the 4K service just standard. It certainly looks better than on my older 1080 display

Your not gonna get upscaling without a 4k TV, and the 4k TV will most likely do a better job upscaling than a player will. So I wouldn't spend more on an upscaling bluray player

From the article...“On all of these tools and capabilities, ARRI president and CEO Glenn Kennel commented, “This is an art form — let the cinematographer make decisions.”

If Producers don’t have the opportunity to do an HDR grade during post production at the time of the motion picture’s creation and lack the funds for a 4K finish, given real world bandwidth restraints in many post houses, a good alternative future proofing decision would be to shoot in 16bit RAW 4K (or higher rez camera), use that 4K (or higher) acquisition as a super sampled RAW file which is then brought down to 2K, proceed with an intermediate format of 16bit Open EXR in your workflow to finish in 2K 16bit ACES (not letting 10bit DPX creep anywhere into the workflow), as explained to a fellow member on Blu-ray.com prior to the publication of the CineAlta magazine article devoted to HDR and the Sony BVM-X300.

Yes, I mostly meant Vfx but some movies alsl have their color grading done at 2k, so I wanted to reflect that too.

Then in regards to the former, I’ll explain… as far as finishing a movie in 4K, you can up-rez a lot of vfx to 4K because viewers can’t visually perceive a difference anyway (due to fast motion or darker scenes inherent to much of vfx imagery) as determined/proven with side-by-side testing during post production with the movie Tomorrowland .

As to the later, in acknowledgment of ray0414’s (whom I assume is a 4K fan, i.e. the more detail the better ) link on the last page, well, 4K finishing (grading) at post (rather than 2K grading) was exactly the point Lori was advocating for at the Produced by Conference (L.A.)…..not that I think it actually moved many of the attendees in regards to their funding decisions.

If she was smart she would be more concerned about the lack of long term storage for digital films. The storage and caring for digital films is 100% MORE expensive than the care and storage of film. (films on drives need to be exercised or transferred every 3 months to guarantee survival).
Unlike tangible film on celluloid, we have film that, for all intents and purposes, exist only in the aether of ones and zeros. Files disappear or get corrupted.
The huge irony is that the care and feeding of Digital is DOUBLE what film was. (And it is STILL cheaper to build humongous sets than to use CGI).

Does Anthropoid have a 4K release? When I went today I got a "Presented in Sony Digital Cinema 4K" logo before the movie, which led me to believe perhaps it does as I haven't seen that logo used at that theater for a probably over a year now and I believe it is only supposed to be paired before a 4K title.

Though would be a bit of a weird choice for 4K since it was shot on Super 16mm.

For color grading, Technicolor has been a prolific buyer of 1st gen 4K HDR BVM-X300 monitors.

I feel quite confident that the archiving topic (i.e. modern technologies being used to future proof collections and keep them viable for future display and distribution formats) will be expertly presented in detail to an audience during an event starting this evening and going on thru Saturday here….

Game of Thrones is $10 million an episode and they have to use digital extensions for almost all their major sets. So strongly disagree with that assessment.

PeterTHX is back.

Not sure if you know him as it’s been years since his position at THX, but Dave Schnuelle is on a Big Screen panel at the upcoming IBC….http://www.ibc.org/ibc-conference/ib...een-experience
