I think I would buy this even if it was the same master if they just removed the processing like T2's recent release.

Heh, I've already done that: it's called the HD DVD.

There's a conversation I want to have with the wife. "I'd like to buy a player for a dead format for one or two movies." The stare I would get! It would be haunting.

Who said you needed an HD DVD player? Although you'd need an Xbox HD DVD drive and a BD burner to do what I did, granted...

Sounds above my tech pay-grade. I read books in college, I didn't type on no fancy compootah! I'd probably be morally okay with procuring it somewhere since I own the BD though. I'll wait and see what happens with this (sure to be a piece of shit) disc first.

That's what I did- used my Blu-ray/HD DVD LG combo drive and converted my HD DVD to a BD. Good thing the Mummy HD DVD was less than $5 online when I got it.

Good that they are starting to release some catalog titles but these movies were pretty lousy. IMO. Oh well.

I think the first one is great but you have to be in a mood for silly, almost satirical adventure stuff. It's like an Indiana Jones parody without going full parody.

Jerry Goldsmith's score grants it power far beyond its limited elements.

Eh? The fact the first movie feels like a solitary story with a real ending is one of the reasons I dislike Mummy Returns.

In the Dragon Emperor why did she turn him and his army into milk chocolate?

She had a chocolate craving that couldn't be satiated, and the kingdom was all out of Milk Duds.

Really cool that you explained your thoughts so well in response to me. You win today's cool internet poster award!

I honestly don't remember Mummy Returns enough to debate it. I only saw it once, way back in the theater. I was more going off the idea of The Mummy not having a good ending, which you clarified well, so it's all good. Maybe if I saw Returns again I would like it's ending, I was just saying I find the original pretty self-contained.

I love both films for what they are, but the original is definitely the best. Yeah, the sequel did a lot of 'bigger and better', but that's also part of the film's detriment.

I have a soft spot in my heart for The Mummy, and I really hope they do this one justice. As I mentioned in the BD thread, I'm skeptical as all get out... but here's hoping.

So we can count down to these sure to be shit discs now, unless Universal is sitting on some glorious transfers done by a third-party, ala Gladiator, which for these titles, I doubt.

If they have nice new remasters and re-released the same old BDs this month that would be pretty shitty. I feel like there's zero chance these are remasters though. Maybe they removed the processing effects though.

Made the mistake of chucking the Returns BD on earlier. You think the Scorpion King CG is bad? Ha! He's just there to deflect from all the other shit CGI. Before he takes human form, Imhotep rarely looks like he's integrated properly into any scenes he's in. People interacting with him don't help, as they rarely meet his eye-line. They look through him, not actually at him. That's before you factor in all the shit blue screen effects and digital armies.

MMMMMMM, CAN'T WAIT FOR DAT FOURKAY GOODNESS!
